On 4chan, they have a number of forums, known as "containment boards" devoted to topics most of the site's userbase doesn't care to discuss, in order so that discussion of these topics will be confined to these boards. These boards usually end up being formed when a particular topic is discussed so much that it drowns out discussion of other topics, leading to annoyance for other posters, and often times an influx of trolling and meaningless spam. One notable example of a containment board is /mlp/, the "My Little Pony" forum, and another is /pol/, the "Politically Incorrect" forum. Much like the rest of 4chan, I do not recommend visiting these boards unless you are comfortable with NSFW, or in some cases NSFL (not safe for life), material.
Now, what I'm wondering is if the "Love and Dating" forum here was created for similar reasons, or if it continues to exist in order to fufill a similar function. From what I can tell, that particular board contains heaps of anger, frustration, and sometimes even outright sexism. A lot of the discussion that goes on there probably wouldn't fly on other sections of the site.
I almost posted this there, but then I thought about it, and I decided that this discussion would be far too "meta" for that section of the site. Besides, it would probably lead to a heaping amount of drama and mudslinging.
What are your thoughts, WP?

My thoughts are these:
- Threads are started in subforums.
- Subforums are inside forums.
- Forums are on websites, which are also called "Boards" after the old dial-up Bulletin Board Systems.
Now that the taxonomy is defined, I think I can answer your questions.
- Our three containment sub-fora are "The Haven" for sensitive subjects like depression and anxiety (where personal criticism is not allowed, and trolling is an especially heinous crime); "Women's Discussion" for female topics (except man-bashing); and "Politics, Philosophy, & Religion", where discussions can get heated as long as personal attacks aren't involved.
- "Love & Dating" (L&D) isn't so much a containment (sub-) forum as it is a place where people can find discussions of relationships and romance.
- Most other sub-fora are similar to L&D, in that they are set aside as places to find your particular topic of interest.
That should some things up for you.
