What is the difference between the outbox and the sentbox?

I've never had anything show up in the outbox before(not have I noticed it) but now they all are. the only things in there were a message to a random person from when I first signed up here, and the last few messages i sent someone.

PM you send remain in the outbox till the person you send it to opens it. Then a copy goes to your sent box.

Seriously?! Wow. I've been seeing if people have read what I wrote them yet, by the sent box. it doesn't show up in the sent box till they read it. :/ *sigh*

I sent a PM to myself a while ago when someone said the PM system was down. Anyway its stuck in my outbox even if I read it. I guess I could delete it.

Yeah. Thanks. I guess the person never read my message back when I first signed up then. poo on them whoever they were.
