Lately i've been thinking about when i go to college if i should leave home. My parents say i can stay as long as i want which is good but i think i just want to get away. I don't have a horrible home life or anything like that. Its just i think they tell me this because of my AS. They don't believe i can live on my own or something. That just makes me want to leave. I kinda feel like my family is pressuring me to stay at home. Does anyone have any suggestions about what i should do?
I would definitely go away to college. Going to a dorm is safe, you can go back home if need be and it isn't a huge commitment like going and signing a 1 year lease. I think it would be a really positive experience for you. I got married at 17 and wasn't ever alone until I divorced my ex. I really think I needed that time, and I relished it and enjoyed every minute of it. It had it's stresses, but once I got into my routines (knew when stuff needed paid, etc.) it was like second nature. Sometimes I miss those times. I was very happy. I am now too, but there is something very liberating about being on your own. As aspies, I think it is easy for us to get into situations where we don't take those leaps. I knew deep down I had to, and I know it was good for me.
I say try it. It gave me so much confidence in myself.
