I'm so excited and scared at the same time. Is this normal?

I think it's normal to be both scared and excited at any major life change.

I found it much easier when I was at uni on my second attempt (the first one ended badly--don't ask). I was 26 at the time, and found it easier to handle all the non-academic stuff with the additional years of maturity. Just try not to freak if you end up getting something called "The Non-Traditional Student Newsletter" in your mailbox, as I did!

Yeah, it's normal. I'm only in community college so far, which is actually closer to my house than my HS. Assume nothing, as the un-aimed arrow never misses.

Yes, it's normal. I had the same reaction when I was accepted to the University of Minnesota (especially since I only had a 3.12 GPA).

If I wanted to be accepted to that school, I don't see how I could be anything but excited about going there.

Excited about going back to school to study what interests me (I was 5 classes from getting my Associates when I left Florida). Scared of the unknown. I have never even seen the campus. It is that fear that will torment me as I get close to that date, but the scared will go away within the first week of class. I am thinking of seeing if I can take a summer class to ease me back into the flow of school and to get comfortable with the campus.

It's normal to be both excited and scared. You should do fine, especially since you've already done some college.

My roommate went to that college, and he loved it. He was on their swim team, and even though he was a commuter, he made some really great friends there.

Great major! You should do a cheap trip out there in the spring to visit the campus. I've found it kind of discouraging to take one single class on a campus in the summer, because there aren't as many people and it can be harder to meet people or make a couple friends. I use priceline, orbitz, airtran, southwest, and hotwire a lot for flights, hotels, and car rentals. Totally doable.

Since I live in Kansas City the campus is only 20 minutes away from my home. I am not so much into the socializing just want to be familiar with the locations of everything on campus so I do not have that deer in the headlights look.

My roommate was just saying what a GREAT school is, and that the science programs there are especially good because of the med. school. He also said, "It's in the f-ing hood though." So I guess don't leave stuff in your car that looks tempting and make sure you lock your doors and such!

I felt the same way after getting accepted at the University of Wyoming. I was living in Memphis, TN at the time, but we were planning to move to Laramie anyways, so I applied there.

MY GPA wasn't good, but it wasn't bad either (3.0 straight). I think what really clinched it was my ACT score, an achievement I am still proud of to this day, 32 in all four sections of the test and a 28 on the essay.

As far as the campus environment, you couldn't ask for a better place to go to college. The cops here really don't see much action here, there's so little crime that they're either speedtrapping or relocating wild animals like bears and moose. The only crime that people really complain about is grand theft cycle. Most everyone here gets around in-town by bike, and it's not uncommon for someone to leave their bike unlocked on-campus and it gets jacked. The city requires registration on bicycles for this reason; you have to get a special sticker for your bike which is basically a license number, so that they can recognize it and track it if it gets stolen.

Other than that, it's a great place. Pokes FTW!

Congratulations!! For me, the scariest part is the moment you open and read the letter. There's a terrifying moment when you think you've read it wrong and you have to reread about 10 times before it sinks in.

I was pretty sure I was going to be accepted to UMKC, but it is the University of Kansas that has me worried. I kinda hope they don't accept me and here is why. If they accept me there is no way I can pay the tuition without adding to the $17,871.21 USD in student loans I am currently trying to pay back. As I am going to be considered a Missouri resident as I live in Missouri and work in Kansas. Now the dilemma is the University of Kansas is supposed to be an all around better school with better academics and as someone up above pointed out not in the "Hood" like UMKC is, but I have calculated the difference in cost's and as a non-state resident KU is going to cost me ~$28000 more in tuition alone not to mention the gas to drive to Lawrence for class.

Then no mater where I go I doubt I can keep my full-time job as I work M-F 10:30 am CST to 7:00 pm CST, so I will need to take out more loans to help keep my housing situation handled, as even though I live share a house with mother I currently make more than she does and neither of us could afford to go it alone.

Argh now you see where the scared is coming in. Excited to go and learn and get a degree in one of my interests so I can work a job I actually like instead of just going through the motions to keep the one I have. Scared of the path to that place. And I would like to do Grad School but I won't even open that can of worms yet.
