Final Grades for Fall 2008 Semester

Actually GPA exist in 6th to all the way up to college level. I'm not sure if you start seeing letter grades until 3rd or 4th grade.

It might be different outside the US, not sure where you are located.

Here in Texas at least high school generally go by a 100 point grade point scale (90+ A, 80+ B, etc) while colleges generally go by a 4 point grade scale (4.0 is A, 3.0 is B, etc)

Do high schools still do the 5.0 GPA system in Texas?

Anyway, my GPA here at Texas State is 3.3

GPA starts in High School and I believe that is in all the states.

I did pretty badly my first semester, though my final grades are not in yet. I'll post again once they come in if I'm not too depressed to do so.

If your idea of a bad semester GPA is like a 3.7 I'm going to track you down and bludgeon you repeatedly with Campbell & Reece.

But seriously man, My first semester was awful - I mean awful - so trust me, it gets much better, just don't allow yourself to get discouraged.

As long as it's the 7th edition. That's the way to die if you ever have go. Poor Campbell is gone now. They had to bring in about a dozen new collaborators to fill the void left by that great man. And that may be my idea of a bad semester, but it doesn't mean I did that well. I had some exams that were timed badly (chem and genetics the same day for two of the four exams in each class) and my math grade was based on 20% homework and three tests of about 5-6 questions apiece. I did not do well on the exams- I forgot one formula and dropped 6.25% of my final grade just from that. And then chem lab just sucked for being too early in the morning, and having stupid quizzes.

Still, I'm not worried. Life goes on, and grad schools care more about research than they do GPA anyways, so as long as I get to hang out in the labs I'll be fine.

My public high school in TX was a 100 point scale though you could potentially get up to a 120 with AP classes.

My weighted GPA is 5.0. Unweighted is 4.0.

I got all A's and B's this term but I don't give a f**k, college's a waste of time for me anyways...

Sad that I know what Campbell and Reece means. Anyway:

Plus I graduated (and got fired the same day).

It's a really good biology textbook that's generally used in college general biology classes across the country. Also, it's large and heavy, so it can also serve as an effective melee weapon. I lent it to a friend, so now I have to kick peoples asses with Fundamental Neuroscience. It's not the same.

Have you seen the 8th Edition? I was raised on the 7th edition, and I'm not sure how I'd cope with a new book that didn't have Campbell's involvement.

I remember that thing being the largest book I'd ever seen in high school. A few people tried to put book covers on it (remember, this was high school) but were unable to find large enough covers.

All right, the bad news is in.

Genetics: B+ (by the posted grades for all my assignments, should be an A-, but whatever)
Chem II: B (this was curved generously; I should have earned a C)
Chem Lab II: B+ (by posted assignment grades, should be a B-, but I'm not complaining)
History of Imperial Russia: A- (damnit, I wanted an A here)
Musicology I: A (doesn't count because it's not a real class)
Marching Band: A (I showed up, ergo I got an A)
Linear Algebra: B (wtf? must have had the most ridiculous curve in the world, I didn't even get through half the final and I was doing badly before the final)
Trombone choir would have been a free A if I had decided to register for it rather than be a moron and leave it off my transcript.

GPA: 3.429

I can live with it. I have some work to do to get back on track to graduating Summa, though.

Phagocyte: If you decide to bludgeon me with Campbell and Reece, I get to keep the book when you're done.

Orwell, that's actually a very good semester GPA by my standards (which, in general, are pretty normal). So yes, I will be bludgeoning you with an academic, but since I like you I'll use Halliday and Resnick.
