Today my parents received some excellent news! My 11 year old austistic brother got a place at the Autism Resource Unit at our local secondary school! Its one of the best in the country apparently and we moved right down the road from it, before he was even diagnosed! He has high functioning autism so the ARU is perfect for him because it focusses on integration with the rest of the school which will be really useful for him in later life.
He doesn't know he has a thing called autism yet, he just knows he gets extra help at his primary school but I think my parents are going to tell him very, very soon. He and his TA are going to visit the Unit a lot this term to get him used to it before he starts year 7.
