Do you even want to go to college?

You sound like every teenager in the world to me. I was like that myself and so was everybody I knew. And later, when I had a job, for years I had a repeating dream - the alarm went off, I hit snooze, slept for a couple of hours and then my boss came roaring through the door, yelling "Are you coming to work or not?" And then I woke and looked at the clock - it was only 5 minutes later, not a couple of hours.

Well, my point with that is that you're not alone. And a louder alarm won't help - my cousin installed a fire alarm and set it to go off at 6a.m. - she and her husband slept through it while it rang for an hour. They had very unhappy neighbours.

The thing is, you have to decide. Are you going to take a run at this thing? How long will you suffer - years or months? If we're talking months, I would hope you'd get a tutor and go for it. You will strengthen the "do-it-anyway" muscle. Then you can do what I did - I walked away from that school as a graduate and absolutely refused to look back.

You can do it, if that's your choice. I doubt that you would regret getting this out of your way forever. You can come back here and we'll support you.

Then use that as your motivation to get up for school, pass your classes, and finish high school. Even though you're not enjoying your classes or getting to talk to your classmates as much, try to make the best of the situation. I know it's not going to be easy, but like Claradoon said, sometimes you just have to suck it up and do it anyways, especially if what you really want is to go to college. Does that make sense?

You're going to be okay.

I'm a teacher. I don't want to get up either. It's depression. When I feel that way, I think about which activities I can cancel without derailing my career and future versus which activities I can cancel with only short-term ramifications. I just try to reduce the number of places I have to be and the things I have to do that day, and I make sure to go to the most important ones, like teaching a class or attending a class, but if I have to cancel my office hours, I do, or if I have to skip an evening event (even if it's an important one), I do.

It's kind of a balancing act..

Another thing I have done before is try to get up two hours early just to lay in bed for an hour and then make a cup of tea. It sounds ridiculous to non-depressed people to take two hours to have a cup of tea, but sometimes, that's what it takes. Having accomplished my first action of the day, it is easier to accomplish the second (get dressed or shower).

I make sure to wake up early enough to fit everything in,that is essential to cope with depression.Find something that makes you JUMP out of bed in the morning, which is healthy, mind you! I do Asthanga yoga for an hour every morning, it really gets me going, mentally, physically and esoterically as well.
