I have an obsession with the American Civil War, so I'm going to tell the WP School and College Life:
The Civil War actually started on January 2nd, 1861 when S.C. troops took Fort Johnson in Charleston Harbor, and 3 days later, Alabama state forces siezed Forts Morgan and Gaines at Mobile. April 12, 1861 was not the first shots of the Civil War. The book titled, "The Civil War: A Visual History," gives you a closer, deeper look into the Civil War.
