I have a tendency to procrastinate as a student in college. Procrastination, in my opinion, is particularly problematic because its effects are not immediately seen. You can put something off and do it tomorrow anytime, as long as it's not the due date, at which time it's too late. In a college environment, the obvious effect of procrastination, of course, would seem to be declining grades. But I have encountered fellow students who are able to finish things at the last minute, and still make good or excellent grades.

What effect does procrastination have on your grades? Do you procrastinate? If not, how do you avoid doing so?

It should be worth saying that WP has been a factor in my procrastination, on more than one occasion. :P

Procrastination bumped me from an AB average to a BC average last year. I don't recommend it.

Had that problem all through my school years.
Wasn't such an issue in college as I was taking courses I was actually interested in, but it reared its ugly head now and then.
No idea on a solution, sorry.

I must procrastinate due to anxiety, especially when it comes to writing papers. I physically cannot do it before the last minute. Why? Because if I would write it ahead of time, my OCD would kick in and I'd obsess over the paper, if it was written correctly and such. If I didn't have deadlines, nothing would ever get done. I'm also a procrastinator for tests. I like reading the night before or a couple of nights before.

I'm a natural when it comes to college work. I'm hard-working and I actually put out the effort to study and whatnot. I've had several instances this semester where I studied for as little as 30 minutes right before the test and came out with a B or an A. My procrastination is more because the classes I'm currently taking have nil to do with my degree plan and I feel like it's a giant waste of my time. Still, it doesn't mean I don't do the work or put out the effort to do it.

procrastination made one of my friends have to retake math 2 or 3 times.

i have a feeling she has some traits of as. she was in regular ed, but the aspie trait is OCD the obcession: AK (alicia keys) she LOVES her sees her every show, has about every album of hers, always listening to her music and always talking about her

her other obcession is church, if shes not at college shes at church(sorry if it sounded like a complaint) but i feel that with her extreme love of both religion and pop culture that it has made her have aspie traits.

My procrastination is a severe problem, but I am beginning to think that the problem is deeper than just putting something off. I find that I "procrastinate" something when I don't care about it at all; I am completely apathetic about the assignment, and I wouldn't ever do it unless forced to. This is bad because I am now on my second attempt at university and am in the process of failing all of my classes because I had to take all boring general education ones, not ones that dealt specifically with what I am interested in. This has been the problem since I have been in school, and I have never been able to bring myself to care about grades. It is like my mind just won't accept the fact that I have PROVE I understand something to someone other than myself.

I had a rather bad problem with procrastination as an undergrad. To make it worse, I'm a poor learner of new material. However once I become familiar and comfortable with new stuff, I'm usually able to work with it forwards and backwards, as though I had always known it. I just had to get past the procrastination part of learning, struggling to learn the very basic stuff, and then I was set.

Have that problem now, actually. In high school. *eep* It seems to get worse both when I get depressed and when fall starts ending. I'm not sure whether getting more sunlight would help. I'm going to try it.

It explains the causes of procrastination and how to overcome it.

I think the sunlight is a problem for me. I want to enroll in school for a PhD (I've got a 3.9 GPA from my MS) but the procrastination is such a problem.

For me is the procrastination the major enemy. I started to procrastinate as undergrad. It didn't affect my grades, but I didn't find my study exciting anymore. After I entered the grad school, I figured out that my problem had a biological reason - my amblyopia ("lazy eye") developed to the stage when I lost perspective vision. In combination with untreated astigmatism, hyperopia ("farsightedness") and dry eye syndrome it was making reading books really exhausting. However, even after treatment my brain get used to procrastination. So, AceOfSpades, thanks a lot for the link. Maybe you saved my PhD.

Procrastination?

hah.

yeah. I do. but not that much. I'm a freshman and I am doing all that I can to make sure that my grades stay good. I'm taking Sociology, Psychology, Understanidng Drama, Intro to lit, and western Civ. I'm more or less failing Soc. but I don't really mind. we have a session during summer, called May Term. I'm gonna take Soc then, and fix it up. I like Soc, but my teacher doesn't have powerpoints that the rest of the teachers do.
