I'm in high school and here's how it's like:
At my school, the students (both special ed and mainstream) get treated like crap by the students because they act gangster and they don't how to treat someone with autism and other kids with disabilites.
My math class (which is a special ed class) is the worst because sometimes the teachers make fun of us and can't help it if we're slow like if we don't finish our work in one day, they give us a bad grade instead!
Also, sometimes the teachers can act like the students sometimes.
Here's the only good part about my school: I know two teachers and their class who probably knows how to treat an autistic person.

Is anyone's school like this, too?
I'm at a University, so no. I was going to reply about
my HS days, but the whole terminology seems to have
changed. Gangsters in my day were class acts.
The special ed kids were mostly seperated into their
own class (I volunteered there). Some definitely got
some serious abuse, but no worse than I took. It was
more the jocks though who would pull stuff.
Just a question: are you in a sub-urban school? I found
that they tended to be the worst, talking to some younger
friends a decade or so ago. 'Course, with the weapon restrictions
now, inner-city might have gotten pretty bad. Back then, enough
people were packing, that no one would start anything.

Yeah, I am in a sub-urban school (blame some redistricting rule in my school district for that) but I'm glad the school board approved some plan to stay at the school you were assigned to or go to another school nearby.
