I've been thinking recently about dropping out of interior architecture because of my lack of social skills.
it's my second semester and I haven't made any friends, it's so bad that everybody looks at me like if I was a freak, just because I don't talk that much.
I've tried a few times to have conversations with others but no one seems to be in a good disposition to hear me.
this is my second BA. My first is in art photography and I did have some friends back then, some of whom I still talk to.
when I was in the photography program some people used to get mad at me for not getting the social cues or whatever it was.
However, I felt a little more accepted, since in art programs there's always a lot of "freaky" or eccentric art students.
back then I was also much younger and I might have appeared naive to some people.

today I have anxiety and depression and this doesn't help. It almost seems like I scare people, none likes to be near me.
I don't know if I'll ever fit in or if I ever will be able to get a job in this field.

You should major in something you truly enjoy, not because of what someone else thinks.

I agree with Tim. I dropped out of college, and now I'm in a job I hate more than I hate fire alarms, and I now am returning to school. I'd have my doctorate by know if I didn't drop out, and be doing the research that I enjoy. :nerdy:

What College do you go to for Architecture?

Don't Drop out- It won't benefit you in the long run; it doesn't matter what other people think of you in class. It doesn't matter what other people think of you in general.

I come across as extremely arrogant to people(Mainly because of the way I look) and so people love choosing to insult me.

You can't let their opinions be the deciding factor of what you want to do in life.

My suggesstion would be to major in something that YOU want. Otherwise, you won't be happy in life. Also, if you drop out now, it would be harder to come back later and finish. Besides, I've seen my mom drop out of college right before graduating and she hasn't been able to go back and get her degree. I've had those thoughts of wanting to quit, but, I'm so close to graduating, and even though i hate my major and since my parents are paying, i can't really change it back to what I was doing before, so i'll get my degree in my major now and go to grad school after having gone in the Peace Corps and gotten money to pay my way through grad school, i'll go back and get my masters in what I want.

I can totally understand you. I am attending a college that was not my top choice, where there's a lot of football and drinking and stupidity; I remember coming home after my first day of classes and crying, thinking "I'll never have friends here!" I still don't feel like I belong here. I don't like my classmates and they don't like me either. I've had a lot of bad experience with professors and administrators too. BUT, do NOT drop out!! ! If you have a chance, I would suggest transferring to a college where you'd feel more at home. What about your classes? Do you actually like the material? The most important thing is to choose a major that you like, and also one which is consistent with your career goals. My advice to you is to focus on your classes. I know it can be hard in the beginning, but it gets better--you become really good at ignoring other people and focusing on your self and your career. Take some challenging classes; get involved with research; once you're swamped with work you just don't have the time to think about how lonely and miserable you are. I am now a senior, and things are a bit better socially because I am taking 400- and graduate level courses, where the people are more intelligent and nicer. Things do get better once you take challening classes. While I can't say that I have any friends, there are people that I talk to and that's an improvement. I don't feel like an outsider in most of my challenging classes, which is also nice. As a final note, let me give you the advice that the prof who taught my freshman seminar told me: "grind your teeth and live through it." Let me also emphasize again that it's really important to study something that you like. If you're studying something that you hate, then you're setting yourself up for a very miserable life.

thank you all,

I asked cause I like seeing things from different perspectives
this was a decision I had to take, so I went and talk to a therapist, she says that I have severe anxiety and social phobia
I started painting again as well as taking photos. I'm cutting units,
see how It all goes.

Something to note about the social anxiety. . .

For the most part, people don't think you're weird. They have a way of being so stuck on themselves that they don't even notice- especially if you really could pass, other than not talking much, as "normal".

Friends are a hard problem. . . but chances are, people aren't out there actually hating you or thinking badly of you.
