My form teacher told me that I would have my AS put down on the disabilities list for university. How will this change the process for me? UK Universities only.

I don't think it will change the process itself (AFAIK), it will just mean that you're legible for DSA and any help you need in exams etc. All my tutors at uni know about my AS, and it helped me a lot with settling in. Is there anything specific about the process you're worrying about, or do you just want to know in general?

I think you'll be fine with it, they do it to help you more than anything. I've found it a lot easier in uni (with an AS diagnosis) than I did in school (without knowing I had AS). Good luck with your course/exams etc.

Never affected me when I applied.

You'll find that many good Universities have quite a high concentration of people with AS, particularly places like Oxford and Cambridge especially.

I shouldn't worry.

It means the universities will get to know whether or not you have AS before making a decision on whether or not you get a place or not. Some universities see AS as a positive, other ones see it as a negative. Your call.

Will you be moving away from home while you are at uni? Thats the part which has me most worried, Im not sure how I'll manage if I was to stay in a halls of residence with heaps of other students...

Going to university is just succumbing to the Newt power structure. Only ret*d mundanes need college to education themselves. Intelligent people, i.e. Aspergians, are better left to self learning at the library or over the internet. The idea that a neuro-typical sheeple could teach an Aspergian is rediculous, besides, you don't have to bother with people while learning at home.

Some of us actually like university. And tbh, if you want a decent career, you need at least a degree. Don't be such an arrogant idiot.

Apply for a job that needs a degree and say ''I don't need one because i'm AS and I learnt it all off Wikipedia'' and you'll be laughed out of the room. Not enough people understand AS to know that we do have some information-absorbing ability.

Half of Wikipedias crap anyway.

I wouldn't waste my time with any job where neurotypicals were in charge. I'm not one to let idiots tell me what to do and would proably tell them off.

I have to agree with Sopho sorry man but I completely disagree with some of what you are saying. You can't tar all neurotypes with the same brush and you can't tar all aspies with the same brush either. I myself find uni to be quite a frightening prospect and not many things in day to day life frighten me... but university will.

As much as I sometimes hate the way of certain structures and order of neurotype ruled world some of the people I rely on are neurotypes, and intelligent individual neurotypes too.
I'll admit it's also certain people I relate with well and rely on somewhat who are aspies but usually online in that case.

Of course there are certain ways of many neurotypes that I can't stand as well... but you get my point.

Especially if you hang out in the Engineering library!

My psychiatrist said that universities ask you for medical histories?!?!

Some do if you state your disability on your UCAS form. Its so you can get assessed for DSA's and the like (free laptops and so on).

She was trying to give me a reason not to go against her advice. She also said that she would inform the school about it too, and that they would probably ban me from school as a result. Manipulative b****.
