I used to, mainly as a stim. But I had to quit chewing gum because I have poor enough motor control that I kept biting the inside of my cheek accidentally, so hard it would bleed a lot. Enough times of shocking pain and amouth full of blood and I gave up gum. I have to be careful eating, food, too. If I start zoning out while eating or eating too fast because I've let myself get too hungry, all of a sudden, unexpectedly, *CHOMP* and then I have to stop eating for a while because it swells up so much there's no way to chew anything without injuring it worse. So then I drink smoothies until it heals enough that I can chew solid food again.

I think it was against the rules at every school I went to, but I did it anyway. I didn't realize at the time I was looking for a stim  I am a college freshman now, I still chew gum. I try to remind myself to not blow bubbles since it's rude (not sure why it's rude, but it is). If the teacher saw I didn't get in trouble, I just had to spit it out. I bounced my leg as a stim, but it is attention drawing.

I may have an oral fixation, as I chew gum a lot and smoke on and off.

I think when I was younger I would. It wasn't allowed in class, mainly because people have the disgusting habit of sticking the gum they've been chewing under the tables and chairs. :eew:
I used to get away with it though.

No, because most gum sold is too sweet and the only other options is mint, which might as well be liquid fire to me.

That said, I often chew on the plastic part of the pen intended for use to hold the pen in one's pocket. It's very comforting, and there's not actually a rule against it either, which is amusing.

I have a chewie necklace I wear to chew on when I need that kind of stim.

I have the black circle with the white dot. It looks just like some regular sort of jewelry and goes well with even some of my dress-up clothes. But it is there for me to chew on whenever I get a little stressed and I have chewed the heck out of that thing and there are no teeth marks.

I'm thinking about making something more casual looking for variety. Maybe a longer cord with rubber beads from the craft store on it. I don't know if they are "food-grade safe" to chew on, though. And I don't know how well they will stand up to my chewing. My Chewelry necklace is awesome on both those counts.

I have to have something in my mouth in order to concentrate. Hard objects are best, such as tooth brushes or really thick pens. Gum is just too squishy and soft and most wintergreen flavors make me natious; but I can understand how come people need it. My poor Wacom pen looks as if a dog got it because the rubbering is all chewed up. I perfer those bouncy balls you can get for a quarter. I hold them in my mouth and lick them as opposed to chewing them. I have a licking compulsion as I kid I would lick anything I could get my tounge on it had nothing to do with taste but texture. It's a miracle my mum's hair didn't turn grey by the time I turned ten.

no, I think gum is annoying.

I rub my shoulder, or twirl my hair.

Yes, to help me concentrate. If I was not allowed to chew gum, I would be grinding my teeth, which is really bad for them. I was excited to start middle school, since I was allow to chew it during most classes.

I hate gum. I would only take it if someone else offered it to me - and I would usually only take it if the person offering it was an acquaintance that I wanted to become better friends with.
