Careers for individuals with ASD after college...

I origionally entered university with the intent of becoming a teacher. I did a lot of volunteer work with small groups of children (particularly those with autism). I had good grades in all my classes. However, the communication aspects of trying to manage large groups of students during my practicum did not work well.

I am now in psychology, working on my first research project. I love research so far, especially being able to spend hours reading and writing about topics of special interest. I have future plans for graduate school. My dream now is to become a researcher/professor in educational psychology.

I think indviduals with AS, like everyone, have to try a few things before they find a career that will capitalize on their strenghts and minimize their weaknesses.

Well for me, I'm been thinking about a teacher or a professor. Still there are more options than those when you a education major. I'm going to the Grad School for Special Education because I wanted to make a difference in other people's lives.
