Agreed. Though for many entry-level jobs, particularly in large retail corporations, the interviewers will read from a list of specified questions. It makes it a little difficult to build some rapport, but it also makes it very easy to find the interview questions online and prepare for them ahead of time.
Glassdoor.com is one site that lists interview questions for tons of companies.
One way to distinguish yourself from other applicants is to turn the questions back at your interviewer. When they ask, "Do you have any questions?" at the end of the interview, ask them something like why they wanted to work for this company, what have you learned through working here, how has the company supported your development, etc. Keep it short--1 or 2 questions is all you need--and suddenly the interview is a lot less like a routine interrogation. Instant rapport if you do it right.
