Trust me. 45K isn't wealthy. My health insurance alone would not be covered by your 15K. I only have it because my employer picks up most of it. Even WITH insurance, I spend 300-500 month on health expenses out of pocket.

That's what makes health insurance a rip-off.

Yeah. Tell me about it. Yet I would be in dire straights without it. It's like working for the company store in the late 19th century.

at my company, H.I. would eat 33% of my paycheck plus a $1000 deductible, and apparently i make too much for medicaid, needless to say, i have not seen a doctor or dentist since 2004. I got an eye exam and glasses last year, paid out of pocket, but thats only because i couldnt do without any longer.

I think we'd be better off if more people volunteered in health fields like they used to. It used to be it was church run charities and missions that provided most of it. Now it's just a gigantic commercial endeavor run by gigantic health insurance organizations. They have run the price up so high it's ridiculous.

The motives are different now too. As a doctor If you make someone "better" or "cure" them, then you lose money on them, but if you focus on palliative care (making them "feel" better), then you have created a slave. If you make your patient "feel" well, by prescribing them something, then they will keep coming back for it.

American Pharmas could have cured cancer and aids if they wanted to, but there's no continuous cash flow there.

The human race is a bunch of sick sadistic bastards.

They are motivated by the dollar and the dollar alone but the dollar should be less than half of what motivates them :)
It's not all of them but some of them, there are still some good doctors around.
Still we should get back to basics and think about how great it is to help someone else :)

I agree with you, some things are more important than money, but try telling Big Pharma that.

No, I've never had a good job. So it must be something else. Probably that I learned to communicate better, listen more, gave people more respect, stopped being an idiot; things like that.

I agree with you there, everyone should have access and people shouldn't be ripped off by insurance companies just to access it. The problem is, cost. Health insurance is a classic case of conflict of interest. We need to think of ways to keep costs down and help people at the same time.

Health as a profit center is a conflict of interest.

Insurance companies are all about profits. How can you make a profit on someone's health without enormous cost is the question? It's destined to be expensive doing it this way...
The health insurance system is intrinsically flawed. No doubt about it. But how do you fix it?

The root of it is: money is the motivation. If medicine were socialized, and doctors/researchers were told they could only make x amount of money, few people would stay. Under the capitalistic system, social darwinism applies. Only the strongest will survive.

I completely disagree with that point of view, i can say i dont believe in social darwinism, but then again i can stand in the middle of the freeway and say "i dont believe in buses"....

I believe that there is no way to fully "fix" the healthcare system without destroying it. As flawed human beings money will always be our biggest motivator, if a course of action will not make us wealthy, we will naturally not pursue it.

I do not believe capitalism is a perfect system, nor is socialism. We as humans are too diverse to subscribe to a single ideology, people have tried, but always with disastrous results. We are incapable of creating perfection because we are not perfect ourselves, if we were, we wouldnt need healthcare.

Thing of it is, without a capitalistic healthcare model, we would be in the dark ages of medicine, alchemy would still be considered valid science. People at some point, saw that there was money to be made in healing people, now we as the non-wealthy public, have become the pawns in the game.

It sickens me that many of these extremely wealthy CEO's (walmart comes to mind) claim to be professing Christians. Last i checked Jesus said "blessed are the poor" and "what you do unto the least of these, you do unto Me" I think He would be disappointed in His church if He came back today. We have long abandoned the business model of "The Great Physician"

I'm thinking the entire health system is flawed. As soon as profit becomes the primary motivation, health becomes a commodity. The problem is that it is an unbalanced transaction. It it's most extreme form, a person will got to any lengths to live. There is no ceiling on the price a person will pat for a life saving cure. This is not the case for something like a car or flat screen TV. Even the wealthiest people have limits on what they will pay for material items. People go without health care not because they are unwilling to pay for it, but because they are unable. And unlike not paying for a material item, not getting the proper health care can quickly become a huge negative on a person.

It kills me that business is increasingly pushing health care costs on to the employee. Yet they have a direct benefit measured in productivity when an employee is healthy. Will we one day be unable to get a job unless we can certify ourselves as healthy?

That day is here. I had to have a company physical to get a job at a convenience store.
