depressed/upset about getting a job..
Yes, I love to see these replies.
Yes, I also agree that starting part time can be wonderful. It's best if it's permanent part time.
However, sometimes contracts can be great. They give you a taste of the industry to see what it's like.
While I know that making the choice now might seem scary, it is good to keep your options open and to try something.
Most of us don't get it perfect the first time!
It is overwhelming. I am 34 and have worked on and off since I was 17, but never had the same job for much more than a year. The last few years have been even harder.
For me getting out there and doing it, even if it means panic attacks on a daily basis, gives me a sense of winning, even if I fail in the end. The way I see it, if I can work at the same place for a year, I've really overcome alot to do it and it makes me feel good. Helps me in other areas of life. Helps me realize I can function better than I think sometimes and not to overthink things and fight through the anxiety to throw myself into the great unknown. I HATE that, but if you ever wanna function "normally", you gonna have to. Who cares if you fail? I often find that the scenarios I think in my head are always worse than how things really play out. Just gotta fight the urge to have to always be safe. Very hard I know, trust me. But it's all you can do.
I've found the most success in temp jobs. They usually have some clerical work that drives most people nuts like filing, making copies, stuffing envelopes and stuff like that. I know I always loved solitary work that requires little mental effort. Just wanna make my paycheck and go home. With temp places, they can decide if they wanna keep you long term or if not the agency will find you another job. It takes out the scariness of going on hundred of interviews and filling out a bunch of applications. The agency does all the work for you and just tells you where to show up. If you are reliable for them they will keep getting you more work.
I went through my end of year paperwork for the last five years and realised that I've earned on average about £8000 per annum for the last five years. The maximum a person can claim on disability allowance ( I'm not entitled ) is £16000. The average salary for a female my age is £26000 and a male is about £30000.
I could have done twice as well financially by breaking my own back or swallowing mercury salts.
I don't know why I'm posting this here as I don't really have anything positive to say about it.
