DBA = Doing Business As

It is an assumed business name. The State usually keeps track of that so that people know who to serve in a lawsuit and so that 2 businesses do not use the same name.

You should try to find the nearest SCORE office. They should know the license and zoning requirements for your area and who to see to become legal if you need to.

Yes, becoming a legal business is confusing. That is why my state published a book in regards to that topic.
