It is hard to know what the future holds. A lot of companies that looked like they were going to be stable in the past have either gone out of business or transferred formerly-high-paying jobs to Mexico or China. You can't count on being able to hold a job at one company for 30 years. You have to be flexible and adaptable, and keep setting money aside for retirement. A lot of companies have stopped offering pensions all together.

Well, welcome to the generation that can never retire.

It is fairly simple, Social Security and pensions are based on lifetime earnings, when gold was $35 an ounce.

The payout might cover utilities.

There were twenty paying into Social Security for each retired, now there are three.

Real wages have been declining. In the 1950s a guy pumping gas, making $48 a week could buy a house, a car or two, care for several children.

We will all be working forever.

It fits my style, I am starting a new business, at 60, it will not help my retirement, for if you have income, Social Security can delay paying.

The Government is a Ponzi scam.

For me, it's a very long time to go, but I would probably do some kind of temping/contracting work or voluntary work.
