And there's another good thing, Raleigh, respect for you will have increased in your workplace as a result of what happened, how you dealt with it and the outcome.

The principal was very impressed with my attitude and honesty (perhaps too honest at times).
It turned out there was no evidence to support the claims the area manager made. The action against this person is still continuing....
I've since been observed on site performing my role and passed with flying colours.
There have also been some accommodations made:
1) I will have a 'critical friend' attend meetings with me.
2) I will have a mentor (An ASD Specialist - I'm so excited - she's amazing!)

I do feel my confidence has increased through this. So glad now I didn't give up.

I was told almost precisely the same thing appraisal after appraisal as a level 2 programmer doing level 3 assignments. When I pressed them about giving non-performance-related excuses for why I wasn't being paid at the next level, the boss gave me a long talk about respecting the chain of command and seniority. They probably both find you annoying and not as obedient as they'd like.

One of the strategies I've heard is to ask your employer "can you give an example/quoted of where my suspected lack-of-social skills delayed a job"? If they can't prove directly you have not failed performance-wise, their so-called "social skills" strike against you is illegal is a protected class worker.

Another strategy is to find someone with similar to worse performance who has been getting at least not threatened with demotion. If you can prove you are being treated differently for doing the same or better work, you have a case.

Also, try to keep a written record of everything nasty or suspicious your boss says...especially if when he contradicts himself (e.g. says "excellent performer" on one report but "incompetent" on another).

Anyhow ,more than likely your social skills are lacking and you don't realize how bad it really is .

I see this alot with people with aspergers ,you guys love to disagree and correct people .

Even though I'm on contract, discrimination in the workplace is still illegal last time I checked.


My social skills are indeed lacking. The principal has now agreed to pay for professional development in this area because it was documented on previous reviews that I've been requesting help for some time.


I don't make eye contact. I tend to look at people's mouths when they speak. I had to smile when the principal said in our meeting that I have good eye contact because I hadn't looked at her eyes once.
If someone says something that I think isn't right I will disagree with it. If I think it's right I will agree. Doesn't everyone do that? Am I supposed to agree with everything even if it's not right?
I correct people when they are wrong. It seems like the logical thing to do. I like people to correct me when I do something wrong so I can improve myself.


I disagree. I wouldn't say I love doing it but I would like to point out the incorrect use of spacing before punctuation in your post.
