I met with an agency which helps people with disabilities find jobs, Fall 2008. I was receiving income assistance then, so I ended up volunteering at a pet store and it was a really bad experience. He had volunteers do all of the dirty work (to make a long story short), I hated it.

Since then, I have been volunteering for a year at SPCA (they just opened a year ago), finished a Veterinary Assisting course (online) and started Forestry and Wildlife Conservation (online). I also started babysitting and petsitting.

So, I am like a totally different person from when I met with the agency last, and I have decided to try it again. I stopped receiving income assistance when I got married the end of April. I haven't had a job in years. So, they're going to contact vet's offices for me, that would be my number one choice.

Today I went to another animal shelter (just cats) to start volunteering there--I filled out an application. If I want to work with animals, I figured the volunteering will help...

I am also meeting someone tomorrow about horse riding lessons! I started Fall 2007 but they got too busy for me and I haven't been able to find anyone else.

A pet store which only sells food and supplies, no live animals, posted on Job Bank and they're looking for someone 18 hours a week. It's one of the places I would like to work, and the agency contacted them to offer wage subsidy (they're government funded). So, I'm waiting to hear back. They don't plan to hire until the beginning of August.

But my riding lesson was awesome, I'm going again Monday!

Haven't heard about the pet store yet, but the agency didn't contact anywhere else. They really haven't done anything for me. They thought I could start my own business and I don't want to.

So, I started looking for a job on my own. I applied online Wednesday, had a phone interview 2 days later (yesterday), and go in person for an interview on Wednesday for Home Depot to be a cashier.

Hope it works out, because I am going to Florida for 15 days in November and could really use this money.

I have no problem with interviews... I'm really good at them. Getting them is the problem.

Anyway, I didn't finish training and was supposed to watch someone for a day but they were so short staffed that I got put right to work as a cashier today. I think it went well.
