What is a job or carreer?

If I could say to you "I will give you ten million dollars" would you bother having a "job" or "career"?

Seriously, would you bother to being a teacher, or social worker, or policeman or soldier?

Would you work 40 hours a week in a car factory or a coal mine?
Would you sweep the streets or pick up people's garbage?

I don't think so. I know I wouldn't.

It depends on what kind of work I had to begin with. If my millions were the result of me running a corporation or being famous, I would imagine that I would work just about as much, if not more so, than the average person.

Of course, since my career will most certainly be in scientific research, I would do that even if I was a billionaire, since I love it so much.

But yeah, if I was a millionaire chances are that I would certainly not be doing any mundane or low-level jobs.

I would. I would become an artist. I do beautiful work, but my art has been severly limited my entire life because I can't afford materials (I do textile art and nice materials are way out of my price range and I can barely afford garbage material to work with my ideas .. and then I'm ashamed to show them to anyone because they're made from garbage material.)

If I had ten million dollars, I could set up a wonderful studio with tons of materials to work with and finally create all the beautiful things that are in my head.

I would probably atleast open a restraunt. Even if it was just a Mc Donalds.

yes, i would still work. Life can get pretty broing without a job/career
and nothing can substitute job satisfaction, when you know you've made someone else's life better.

I'd rather be a hedge fund manager, though. Those guys trade on the financial markets based on what they find when they study the current trends and state of the economy using logic and Aspieness then get paid hundreds of millions every year :lol:

A "job" is what you do so you can have the necessities (and some wants) in life.

A "career" is a "job" you actually enjoy devoting much of your life to.

If I had $10 million, I'd have to find something to do to give my life purpose. I've sat around with nothing better to do...it sucks.

A job is something that you go to, each day in order to make the money, to pay your bills. A career is one step farther, and it's more of a living, than a job, and you get payed more money, for it.

And then there is a vocation, which is more like a calling. For example, a priest doesn't really have a job or a career, he has a vocation. That's what I dream of -- work that feels like I'm satisfying my purpose for existing. It's a rare treasure that few people get to experience, but I still hope for it.

To answer the title and not the OP. My career is an Electrician. Mainly a Construction Electrician. I get dispatched to jobs out of a Union hall. I work at the jobs until they are done. Then I go back to the union hall and wait for the next job.
