Today, my boss threw me under the bus and I don't want to go back tomorrow.
I work in real estate for an agent who is part of a large company. He has his own private office and I have to work in the cubicles in the main room. I sit next to two girls who work for a team. I hear everything they say. Not that I try to. They're just right there. Believe me, half of it I don't want to hear and most of it is so catty I don't want them to even notice me for fear of returning to high school, if you know what I mean. When I can, I got into his office to make calls, because their criticalness of other people makes me fear working next to them. Reputation matters so much in real estate.
This team shares a client with us. Well, not share really. They do some of his listings. My boss does some of them. Well, they have been having issues with this client. He's not happy with them. I overheard one of the girls whispering about the guy possibly taking his two listings he has with them to another agent and she said my boss's name as that agent. She was whispering, but, Hello!, I could still hear. I wanted my boss to be aware that something might be happening so he wouldn't be caught by surprise later on. I'm supposed to have his back. He does well, I do well, right? I told my boss about it in an e-mail, which is how I usually communicate with him. Well, he comes out and says "*My Name* thinks that you may think *Client Name* is bringing his listings to me. But why would I want his listings when I sent them to you?..." So embarrassing! First question that must have come to their mind - Why would she say that? Because I overheard them! Talk about total breach of trust! And of course they're going to deny it! Now the girls are going to think all I do is sit there and spy on them. He didn't have to say anything, because the client could have just been threatening them into representing him the way he wanted.
I was so fraught with panic and discouragement that I went in his office and cried. He wasn't there. Right after he said all that, he left to show a house. I sent him an e-mail and told him in a nice way that you don't do that to someone with Asperger's. We have enough social anxiety issues.
I don't want to go back tomorrow. I don't want to work there. I don't want to have to deal with those girls. I don't want to deal with the snootiness and fakeness that are Realtors. I don't want to deal with all the things like answering phones, meeting clients, acting formal, long hours, etc. that are so hard to deal with because of my Asperger's. I don't dress right. I couldn't even afford to dress right if I could. It's not me. It never has been.
But I need money.
I just need someone to talk to. No one in my life understands what it's like to have this social anxiety.
