How to get time to work things out?
Okay, got a problem. First the background, I'm 40, work for the federal government, and have computer/machine talents. Leave me alone with a manual and a few minutes and I can use it and program it and in a few hours I can also rebuild the damn thing and get it to do your taxes. However, I am a rather severe Aspie and things get worse under stress. We've got a new supervisor at work. He's former military who is an extreme micromanager. (Two weeks ago he threw out all the calculators in the office to replace them with identical ones....) In my work I use a cash register. Last week he replaced the cash register with an identical machine but rearranged the keys and replaced the words with tiny pictures and a continual buzzing noise. He has decided he has to teach me how to use this machine. It has failed miserably. I've had two meltdowns complete with rocking and an inability to string words together. The bell has given me a migraine for two solid days. I miss the keys continually (I touch type at about 80 wpm) since the key location is different. I've been drug into his supervisor's office and told that my behavior is unacceptable and that I'm rude and slamming things because the stress related stimming becomes so bad I can't move very well. I've been told that speaking to the person above his head is "insubordinate" and that I am not allowed to do so without his permission and his presence.
Any suggestions?
Best I can come up with is to tell him once, as politely as I can under the circumstances, that this situation is not working and that I need to be left alone for a bit. I will be fine but please let me work this out. And then refuse to respond while reciting stuff in my head to keep myself calm. Oh yeah, and make sure this happens in one of the rooms where we're on tape.
Yes, he has been officially reported to the EEO office. He's under investigation but has refused to let me speak to the detective hired to investigate it....
