When do you want to disclose having a disability during the process of application and when don't you.

For example, if I'm looking at applying to places that are helping others getting help because of disabilities, I was told that it was appropriate to mention my migraines, but not my AS, because of the ability to claim caring that others get the help that I was denied.

But if I'm looking at applying at working at a school for people on the spectrum, do I disclose anything or not? I'm completely unsure when I'm supposed to be saying anything. I won't be able to work a job that can't deal with my sensory issues (which is part of why I'm looking at tutoring in those schools, they'll have to deal with sensory issues for the students), but I know of people being rejected only because of disabilities.

That really all depends on you. It's difficult to say without knowing you, because the term Asperger's is used to describe such a wide spectrum of people.

I wouldn't, well not on the application. As for later, its up to you. I just started a new job and Im trying to figure out whether its ok to disclose or not. I'm probably gonna call Human Resources head trying to identify as an anonymous employee and ask. But so far, what Ive read on disability disclosure is that you should disclose if you need accommodations for the job. However, aspergers is very difficult. It really comes down to how we identify accommodations. Sometimes, we just might need better understanding by our employers and coworkers. Does that classify as an accommodation?

See, I need accommodations because of sensory issues. I can't be around something that causes me migraines or sensory overload.
