Apparently, when NTs bring in their portion of coffee or tissues, they do it in front of people so that others will know they brought it in. If you do not do that, it is as if you did not contribute.

I know, it's weird, because like, you could just have a check off list or something but it's very important to remember that when you are bringing your portion of shared items, you do it in front of people. Otherwise, you might be branded as someone who does not contribute and cause others to get angry at you (which of course, no one will ever tell you until it is at a boiling point).

So just FYI to you Aspies, this is another thing that NTs pick up on that you might not. Bottom line, have witnesses because NTs are sensitive and kind of weird.

Fortunately for me, at my workplace, we have a kitchenette and we regularly buy our own supplies of coffee for the office.

So? When I'm in the main office, I'm not above putting on a fresh pot of coffee or helping out with the dishes when the situation
requires it. And the situation requires it often enough that I do get noticed by a few of the office women. And they tell a few friends,
and they tell a few friends, and so on, and so on, and so on....

(Yep, just like the old commercial for Clairol Herbal Essences shampoo.)

“So whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you." Matthew 6: 2-4, New Revised Standard Version.

So True! People actually take time out of their lives to keep track of this stuff!

And they say we're weird .....

Or you could be antisocial like me and have PRIVATE coffee (french press) and PRIVATE tissues at your desk.

No one better touch my stuff. :!:

I can't take caffeine so well for the past year - one mug of coffee or tea after noon, and it takes a longer time for me to fall asleep at night.

I only dared to buy hot chocolate (which I have been drinking since my childhood and don't react so much to) after we had some left over from an event for our clients went into the pantry and a NT colleague made a mug for herself. My boss still kept asking me if I take coffee.

Maybe to some NT people I come across as being fussy about food and drink, but knowing that I can fall sick more easily when I am stressed out by social situations means that I have to take more care when I am not sick.

Good advice, it took me awhile to pick up on that particular office oddity. ~shaking head~

I had an issue a few years ago. I kept a roll of toilet paper inside my desk for whenever I needed a tissue. I was confronted by my boss one day who took me aside and said that this was inappropriate in the office enviroment.

At the time I thought this was very odd, given than amost everyone kept a box of tissue paper at their workstations for similiar purposes. The problem was they had kleenex, and I had toilet paper, a distinction that to me seemed arcane. What is Kleenex made of- bleached wood pulp. What is toilet paper made of- bleached wood pulp. One comes in a box, one comes on a roll. The rolls are way, way cheaper than the boxes.

Still I'm told they were all 'disgusted' by this difference. Now, in a different workplace, I tow the line and keep a more expensive box of wood pulp on my desk to keep the peace. (This one with a decrorative design on it!)

I have never brought in commodities like that because I never use them. I'll drink coffee out of the community pot(only because the heat sterilizes it) if I can't keep my eyes open, but beyond that I find the idea of using the same things as my coworkers repulsive.

Completely repulsive.
