Recently, I have seen a disturbing trend at my job. They're hiring several people here who have NO CLUE how to do anything technological. I understand that not everyone is as technically adept as I am, but I have people on either side of me who can't send email! And the guy behind me can't even use a fax machine!! ! Again, I do not expect everyone who starts here to be able to code up a website over their lunch break, but this is 2011, not 1995. Learn how to email for christsakes. Am I being irrational wondering why these people were even hired?(our business relies heavily on electronic communication)

It does seem a little odd that they would hire people who are completely technologically illiterate. If you have concerns perhaps you could approach them and offer to get them up to speed. Or perhaps you could speak with the management about their decision to hire under qualified employees.

I can tell you from personal experience, what is said/presented in the interview and what an employee can be a very big difference. I'd suggest that you have a conversation with your boss/manager about them. How to frame that so that it doesn't look like tattling, I can't really tell you... maybe something like "We are going to have to train this guy quite a bit".

We had a guy who came in, talked a good game, even tested well... 4 days in after hiring him our guys noticed some deficiencies, and we found out he completly lied on his resume.
