Just the usual trife from Yahoo, still I thought it was interesting to see a lot of the same things come up again. Also, glad to see my degree weighing in at #2.

Whoever wrote the article has no understanding of the accounting field...about the only area that does not involve heavy social interaction would be some of the lower level jobs like bookkeeping, and even then you have to deal with vendors, employees, and sometimes even more depending on if they have you just doing bookkeeping or are trying to get you take on more advanced duties [as with my current job.]

I don't think there is a job where you can shut yourself in completely, just that with accounting I would agree that your actual performance won't be quite as socially tied. I mean if you're accounts receivable or payable you can't be a barbarian with your vendors or coworkers but regardless it does seem a lot more forgiving of eccentricities.

I agree that working AP or AR probably doesn't require as much marketing or networking. Of course, some would say that those jobs are not the ones that people who get degrees in accounting [or at least degrees that are bachelor's or above] would be doing.

I do think people on the spectrum can do well in smaller offices and even smaller accounting firms depending on how they evaluate their employees. But I can say that if I had known how much this profession is geared toward marketing and other qualities that favor extroverted people I probably would not have gone into it.

Yeah. I'll put it this way - I got an athletic thrill out of academics for the first time in my life with it, graduated highest honors, just to find out that I was going to be slapped in the face and pulled down into *deep* mediocrity of performance based on what it really was. Its tough not to see that as just AS though, and I attribute it a lot to problems of working memory that you don't run into with 'at your own leisure' things like books and studying.

As of right now I've got hopes for either internal audit or general ledger as next career path. Currently I work for an audit firm who's in the recovery world (so a bit like half-auditing, half collections), everyone in our company is quite nice and dealing with most of the people who we are in our client's departments isn't unbearable because as managers, controllers, etc. they're often a little eccentric themselves.
