I am so excited. I have an internship involving looking for patterns within big sets of data. I have my own little office and the guy in the office next door emails me the big sets of data. It's really a cool opportunity. It also has the potential to really help people- it's healthcare related.
We could use it to predict and possibly prevent future bad outcomes.
My little office even has its own bathroom.
I never thought I would get to do something like this and be successful.

Don't ever give up hope.

Most particularly fascinating work. I kinda love how big data comes from, its information system and how the data gets there in the first place.

I would like a job that designs, handles and develops or maintains these systems. I'm big into IT.

Ah well... Keeping the ambitions high. ;)

Is your approach statistical or hierarchical
? I also work in big data but don't use much statistics.

Krampus, it is actually a more intuitive approach. The best way to describe it would be root cause analysis. We identify problem areas, find specific patterns of problems, and then dig deep into a sample for the root cause.
The IT people pull it all and then we get to make sense of it.
