Graduating...what do I do?

Hi, I'm graduating in 2 weeks and I still don't have a job. Since I went to college to learn, I've been constantly vacillating about what I wanted to do. I finally settled on education this year because it is something that I am passionate about, have experience in, and have taken applicable classes in as a Psych major. But so far I haven't been having any luck, and I know it's probably because I come across as awkward in interviews.

It just frustrates me because I work really well with kids in educational settings and I know how to implement effective instruction. I also am a very good student at an elite college and graduated at the top of my class in high school. I got two internships at in visitor education at some pretty big museums my sophomore year of college, but could not get any internships my junior year. On top of that, my former internship supervisors are being jerks and won't be references for me even though I worked so hard at their unpaid internships.

As you can see I am very discouraged. I don't want to get shoe-horned into specific jobs, especially routine ones just because I am an "aspie." I really want to be involved in something creative and help encourage others to learn. Any ideas?

Maybe try improving on your interviews. Go to a government funded career center and ask to practice with this. Ask people to be open with their feedback, because they may be to polite or uncomfortable mentioning things they find awkward. Try filming yourself. I heard toastmasters is good for this also. I would keep trying. (don't mention your aspergers for now)

Swords, my advice to you would be to apply at schools other teachers don't care to work at since the competition will obviously be a lot less. Then, after you have proven yourself, you can apply at more competititive schools. In my experience, landing the first job is always the hardest.

So what exactly do you want to do in education? Teach a classroom, tutor, teach at a museum, etc?

If you live in the USA, did you take the praxis? Did you major in education?

Agreed, need more details. I have a Masters in Education. Here are some top-line thoughts though... education is such a wide arena and there are tons of "different" and many "non-traditional" ways in which you can use your talents as an educator.

The fact is that I have discovered that the elements of teaching are needed everywhere, in every single business. Although the job title and job description may not look like it, there's room to use those skills in many roles. It's quite possible that you might find satisfaction using those skills in a non-educational-specific job.
