Has anyone ever worked in a pet store?

If you have, then what was it like? I want to get a part time job at one next year and want to know what you do at it. I don't want to manage food, money, or stock, and I assume that all I would do there would take care of the animals and talk to customers about pets. Is that pretty much it or do I have to do anything more? Also what are the hours and wages like? I also am not sure if I will be working at a small, independent store or a chain. The indie one is local to me, the big ones are nearly an hour away in a big town, so I want to try to land at the local one first. Any info is appreciated.

I haven't worked specifically in a pet store, but I've worked in various retail stores and I was pretty much expected to do everything -- deal with customers, ring up the register, count out the register at closing time, deal with stock, count stock, put in re-orders for stock. It's a rare retail job where you only have one very specific task. They mostly need you to be responsible for more than one activity associated with working there, no matter what kind of store. I don't think it's likely that you will only be taking care of the animals. You will probably be expected to be capable of being on checkout, dealing with stock, dealing with customers, etc.
