I am writing a presentation to give at conferences about Autism in the workplace. I need stories about people's experience at work, both positive and negative. I point out how people on the spectrum are usually underemployed, don't receive enough pay or benefits to achieve independent living, and are often targeted for abuse. I make a case that traditional job search techniques don't work for autistic people. I point out the desire of autistic people to have meaningful employment and economic security. I say to use the strengths of autistic people and I suggest alternative strategies for finding jobs. You don't have to use your real name or the name of the company. I already have one person's story who wanted to be anonymous. A picture would be useful even if it is an avatar.

Will we be compensated for our contributions?

My experience is that if you leave me alone to get on with the job it's fine. It's when I have to chop and change I encounter problems. Don't expect me to be ultra flexible. Interruptions are my biggest bug-bear, plus I have one boss (I work for a multi partner practice) who keeps asking me to ask the same questions to clients, when it would be quicker to ask himself. Other partners have realised that if they leave me alone I get on with the job and get it done. Pestering me is self defeating especially as I know what I'm doing.

I'm not making any money. In fact, if my proposal gets accepted at the Milestones Autism Conference I'll have to pay my own travel expenses to get there.
