Does anyone else when looking for a job, if they have a interview not have much luck? I had a interview at a factory, yesterday morning and they literally sent me a email that they're gonna hire other candidates. This was a few hours after my interview. I've had the same happen with other interviews with hearing nothing back.

I have applied for many jobs in the Internet age.

Very few of them so much as sent a letter of rejection. They just didn't respond.

Keep on plugging away.

I know Amazon is always hiring....

I hope I didn't sound flippant----but it is true that I've applied for 100s of jobs, and only got one interview (fortunately, after that one interview, I was hired).

Basically, I am saying that, in this Internet Age, a very small percentage of jobs you apply for will result in even an interview.

I never even got to the interview, I just had to guess when to give up on hearing a word back. I applied to over a hundred jobs and can count the number I got a peep from on one hand, even though they were all the kind of crappy part-time jobs that “anyone” (except me, evidently) can get because no one wants to do them. The only two jobs I ever got were so desperate for employees that there was no interview, just straight to filling out paperwork for hiring, and my employer was asking me every single week to cover extra shifts and asking multiple times if I knew anyone else who wanted a part-time job (both were cleaning jobs). I got one “preliminary” interview to work as a dish washer at a local restaurant, but was promptly “preliminated” because my tremor was particularly bad at the time and the person conducting the interview was hung up on how I looked “extremely terrified,” even after I told him that I just have a tremor (was told I’d get a call if I was hired, unsurprisingly never did). And this was all after having worked on my resume with a professional and being told by said professional that I couldn’t really improve it any more.

Some jobs have a lot of applicants and they often don't bother informing you if you are unsuccessful.
Just keep trying.

We have all had the experience. Don't take it personally. Keep plugging away. Keep looking forward with each application. I know it is really tough. Good luck.

Whenever I was unemployed, I tried to schedule a minimum of 2 interviews each day, or 10 interviews each week.

Why anyone would pin their all of their hopes on only one interview at a time is beyond my comprehension.

That's practically impossible at the moment. Jobs have 100s of applications for just one position. Getting to even interview stage is a big deal. People will have 1 interview in a month if they're lucky, even if they have applied for 50 jobs that week. That's why the interviews mean so much because they are scarce.

That is true.  It is also fair to point out that those jobs with hundreds of applicants seem to be in the unskilled and semi-skilled categories -- jobs that may require experience, but little or no formal training.

However, I posted a job opening 3 months ago that requires certain formal skills, a minimum number of years of experience, and a 4-year degree from an accredited college.  Only 5 people have applied so far, and only 2 of them qualified well enough to be interviewed.  I need only one more to satisfy the "Three Candidates..." rule, and only 2 more days to satisfy the "... or Ninety Days" rule.  Unskilled and semi-skilled candidates are in the "Dime-a-Dozen" category, while qualified and over-qualified candidates are extremely rare indeed.

That was lousy on the part of the person conducting the interview.

Usually, if I’m matter-of-fact about something and don’t make a big deal out of it, the other person won’t either. Obviously, this doesn’t always work.

I think you handled it just right — telling him it’s just a tremor. It reflects poorly on him that he couldn’t get past something as minor and straightforward as this.

Hopefully, you’ll run into people with more life skills and social skills down the road.

Is the fact I want to work 2 jobs and mentioned it in a interview even if my job im working right now, would work around the schedule maybe keeping me from getting any offers?

You might want to check around to see if any of the local schools or community organizations offer a workshop in interview/resume skills. There are a lot of things that you may be having a problem with without even realizing it. Preparedness, appearance, & good attitude in the interview are essential. Coaching in these things and some mock interview role plays will help you in nailing interviews.

That’s possible, Angel.

I went through the same thing.

Maybe look at it from the perspective of a baseball player.

Even if a player has a .300 batting average, he or she can have good or bad streaks and can certainly have a slump even if doing everything right. And a lot of places interview such a number of applicants that the baseline odds are quite a bit worse than 30%.

It’s always been a numbers game, and with the Covid recession more than ever, please keep plunging along.

I don't know what it's like in America but in the UK the tax paperwork for employers when someone has 2 jobs is a nightmare. I wouldn't mention it if I were you.

I used to employ people for bars and music venues and my main advice would be to smile and treat every application/interview like it's the most important you've ever been to. Find out a little fact about the business to drop into conversation or get the interviewer talking about the photo of their kids on their desk or something! It's cheesy but anything that will get you remembered (for a good reason) will help. Good luck.
