I'm stunned that I got a callback to test for this job, given that I didn't actually fill out the additional application form they previously emailed me about. Apparently just my little one-page resume was enough for them! It's a demanding admin support job -- demanding for me because a/ I'm not actually trained in this field, just have some related experience, b/ I am used to working from home and not having to deal with people all day, and c/ I'm an aspie fercrissakes. So, I may go take the test next week and fail because I don't have the requisite knowledge, or I may fail then or later because I am not a people person.

But you know, it's in a government department that isn't all soft and touchyfeely. I may get by being professional. I just hope I don't have to completely shut down emotionally like I used to have to when I was teaching. That was 10 years ago and my emotional skills have developed, although I am all too cognizant of my own shortcomings that my failures make frequently evident.

So, if I fail, I will no longer view it as my defect. Yes, I am a reject as a human being because the normies have indeed rejected me. However, as this is in a legal administrative area, I do have some organizational skills that may be adequate to make this work for me. I will have to use all the interpersonal savvy I can muster. Picture a little kid trying to lift the heavy hilted sword of a medieval knight. Hopefully I don't cut off anyone's fingers or my own nose.

I'll be studying up this week on the info and skills listed in the job description.

I want the goverment job's pay, benefits and security so I can get a good mortgage for a modest house to live in.

This is great news. The greater news is that you are prepared for if this doesn't work out. You won't beat yourself up or feel weak if it doesn't work out. You are giving yourself a chance at a better life. Congratulations to you!

oh and Good Luck!

May the Force be with you. (I REALLY need to stop quoting Star Wars)

Do. or Do not, there is no 'try'....dangit, no me doing it you have me got...;)

Actually, government is about the closest thing to job security. It's incredibly 'rule-bound', so you can establish a routine.

Go for it, jobs down here are hard to come by. Worse case, you build up some experience, then when things get sunnier, you move to something else.
