I can NEVER meet absolutely all of the requirements of any job I see available today on CareerBuilder.com in Cincinnati, OH. I am well aware I can NOT communicate with the interviewer if he/she doesn't know sign language cuz I have stronger symptoms in the area of verbal communication. If they refuse to pay my interpreter and I can't afford to, then I can't answer the interview questions, & I won't get the job. BVR has told me I can't have an interpreter "cuz I'm not hearing impaired". I HATE the term "hearing impaired"! I prefer the term "Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing". I am an autistic person who needs sign language to communicate therefore I deserve an interpreter @ the expense of the prospective employer! So I just had my case closed with them stupid motherf***ers.

Earlier today, @ Goodwill in Cincinnati's community called Westwood, my Deaf coworker who once called me her good friend went violent on me. If she doesn't get kicked out of the program, I will NOT return to work there. My mom told me when I was 18 that I'll NEVER work again in this lifetime. I just emailed her and told her THANKS ALOT for telling me that years ago cuz I think she's right. HELP! I need a job or else I'll wanna die! I'm deep in credit card debt and I need to move out of state to get back with the tactile signers! Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I'm planning on going back to PES @ University Hospital in Cincinnati, OH on 2/6/2009 cuz that's the anniversary of the rejection from the Ohioan tactile signers.

You don't read lips? I'm half deaf, and never tell them them unless they hire me first. Like they need another reason to not consider me.

Of course, you could always just lower your standards.

Umm...I can hear fully...I just don't understand speech very well AND I'm severely speech impaired due to my AS & Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD). It's impossible for me to act like I really am deaf cuz my ears are hypersensitive. Regardless of the fact that I can hear the spoken words, I cannot understand them in most cases. Plus, I am a proud signer, and I hold a philosophy that ALL autistic people regardless of which ASD we have, and whether we can hear, speak, both, or neither, should be entitled to ASL interpreters @ the expense of non-signers in all healthcare, legal, & employment situations. My second cousin used sign language for most of his childhood - I don't know if he still does. Even if he no longer does - he's still an example to refer to.

That sucks. People only seem to feel (sycophantic) sympathy when your difficulties are clear-cut and they know it's expected of them. Otherwise they don't give much of a hoot.

If your financial situation is down to the wire, just get ANYTHING that you can. Fast food is not exempt. It's what I'm gonna have to do pretty quick here...

Thankfully my boss is hesitating to terminate me at my request. I still don't believe I'll feel safe returning to work there on Monday, February 9, 2009. I asked my MR/DD Service Facilitator to look at placing me in a group home so that I'll have extra money out of my SSI check.

I don't care if they don't give much of a hoot about my need for sign language. I'll prove my point someday. I know another signer in Irvine, CA who calls herself "functionally blind due to AS". I believe I am the same. Therefore I need a tactile interpreter so that he/she will let me read him/her tactually. Just any interpreter might only let me read him/her visually. But what I really wish is that more service providers & employers knew sign language and would let me read them tactually that way I would NOT have to demand an interpreter.

I have the same problem, except I don't know sign language. Look up you local Independent Living Center, they will help you. They also help to make sure Vocational Rehabilitation gives you the services you need. Also vocational rehab. should help you with funding for schooling. If you have trouble with nether of those places helping you, then contact the Client Assistance Program.

I can comiserate with your condition. I have some difficulties with speech as well. Luckily (for me) it is not as severe as your's sounds.

I also have hypersensitive hearing. Many will not believe it after I have had them repeat themselves. The difficulty is often not that I cannot hear them, it is that I cannot parse words out of their speech, or that I parse words that are nonsensical in context. In fact, I once heard someone say, "green shove parquet floor".

I have found that the best manner in which to deal with this is to play the absent-minded professor, and say, "I'm sorry, I didn't catch that."

Can you respond in writing and express as one of your first points that you can hear but have difficulty with speech? If you can write, you can compensate, correct?

That can't be much worse than needing a sign language interpreter at the interview.

Hence I will stay unemployable as mentioned in the last entry.
