My aspie daughter had a really difficult time with tense, pronouns, time reference etc. She still will say, "I told you today," meaning yesterday, or when she's talking to her older sister, she will say, "no, my mom said no," when they both have same mom.

I don't think it's echolalia, I just think we take for granted how confusing English is, and they are literal, and the grammar rules are not consistent. Be patient, and gently correct. It takes time, but they get better and better at it.

yes-- he also does that with the gender thing, calling a boy her or vice versa. I am working with him all the time on the pronouns, but I reallly do think he is just memorizing the responses. I hope out speech path. is helpful and he can start to really understand it himself. We go in for eval. at the school this wednesday, so everyone cross your fingers for me. You all have no idea ho comforting it is that I am not alone in this. I have spent so much time feeling like I was just not a good mom....I thought I wasn't working with him enough on things, and that it was all my fault I couldn't get him potty trained, that he must be socially awkward b/c I din't take him around other kids enough. Now atleast *I* know better even though other people still probably think those things
