As Aspie 24 I have always hugged parents frequently. Still do.
Mother's breasts get in the way of a good hug though, making it a lil more awkward that dad. He's easy to hug.

My son loves to hug. He used to hug everybody and I had to give him a talk about personal space.

My two year old child hugs me on his own quite often, especialy when we snuggle up to sleep at night,
but thats with me, I show him tons of affection so he knows its ok with me,
when he is around most other people he just looks at them blankly no matter how cute or funny they try to be.

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

A bit weird, but I remember being a toddler, falling down and walking to my mother to be hugged and her turning on me and telling me to get away...Never again did I try it.

Interesting, I had similar experiences with my mom. If I tried to show her affection as a child, she recoiled. Maybe it's because she is somewhat AS herself, or, she disliked me because of my social problems. I'm guessing the latter, because it's clear she never liked me much.

Our AS son only hugs us if we ask for a hug. Then it lasts about 2 seconds!

Apatura - lovely...I do think my mom is a bit HFA/ASPIE, but she will never agree to that...actually, I think my dad is too...maybe that was the reason...but funny because she does hug all her grandchildren...hmmm

My AS son is very affectionate & loves being hugged, you have to sqeeze him , but he still likes to sit on my knee to watch tv. He also loves you sqeezing his feet , like when you go to buy new shoes.

My evil boy was 4 or 5 when he attended a class mates birthday party.

Things went well, with me keeping an eye on him, and keeping him focused, and prepping to redirect or pull him, when it got out of hand.

Well we survived, and as we were leaving birthday girl, gave my son a hug.

So visualize Shirley Temple in full princess/good ship lolly pop regalia..
With my boy hugging her with a death grip, like he does with me.

She got that Shirley Temple, "you have been very naughty" face.

I took that opportunity to instruct my son in the gentle art of hugging young ladies.

Happily, the lesson appears to have stuck.

I showered my dd with affection from the first day I held her in my arms. She is the most affectionate child in our family (cousins and others).
Growing up, I never had that kind of affection from my mom, so I did make it a point to hug and kiss my daughter. We still hug and kiss each other everyday - and she will hug her aunts/uncles/grandparents. If we are all watching TV on the couch, someone is always leaned up against someone.

my as adhd son likes having his hair twirled and being hugged by me but tends to go ridgid with most other people except his sister and unit leader at boarding school who are also allowed to hug him
