Try to use this special interest creatively - e.g., you can try to draw a bus with him or make its models e.t.c. Such "enrichment" will help him to be more flexible and overcome too strong special interests.
In the age of 5 I was really obsessed with the schemes of Moscow metro and its trains, control panels of elevators, broken electrical devices. But my parents used them to learn me some useful things (e.g. working with scissors, glue, paper, some another instruments, some knowledge about electricity and radio).
