At the risk of being criticized...
I recently found out that there was a time as a child that I would just sit and stare at the wall,
not even when called to by my mum would I move. She spoke to the doctor apparently but he didn't think it was anything to worry about(?) Anyway, I apparently grew out of it after a while and was seemingly "normal".
When I was 9, in 72', I got the reubella vaccine and immediately got severely ill as did my brother. Throwing up etc. Evenually we both got better, but I proceeded to get headaches and
tremors. After a year of tests and exploritory surgery they determined that "something" had
caused scarring to my central nervous system.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what that "something" was. I realize I most likely was born with a more sensitive CNS than the average bird, but I do believe, without much doubt, that the reubella vaccine was the contributing factor that cause this permanant disability that I have had to deal with since that day.
When I had my son I had him get all the shots, except for the MMR. I was supported by several different doctors I consulted that it was wise to wait. The fear was my son may have the same sensitivity that I had. Finally, last year, at age 15, he got his first MMR shot. I felt
it was safer as his CNS has had time to mature and the fact that mumps can be very detrimental after childhood (I couldn't find anywhere that gave the shots separately).
I'm glad I waited...I also feel secure about my decision to have him vaccinated at this time.
He will get his 2nd and last MMR next month and seems to have tolerated the first one just fine.
Thanx for letting me share.
I hope something in my story can help shed some light, or bring some guidance in making what ever decision is best for your child.

I haven't read through the thread (sorry), just wanted to add my own experience and hope you might find it helpful. We have autism in the extended family. I chose to delay and "selectively vaccinate" with my son. He did not receive a single vaccination until he was walking and the first was a tetanus vaccination (not in DPT format). He has had a few others since then and I will have him vaccinated completely before we ever leave our country to travel to any other place (I have a horror story about a non-vaccinated child of a friend contracting polio on a visit to India). My son has autism and was diagnosed at age seven. He displayed autistic traits in infancy but professionals dismissed me and I allowed them to. Make of all this what you will, I just thought it might help to have the perspective of a parent who's been there. ![]()
Isn't that the truth?
But, when things like the current whooping cought outbreak happen, it is easy to see why things get so contentious. Without having met the family that started it, and maybe knowing their story on a more personal level would change my current view, but to choose not to vaccinate and then choose to scamper around the world to all sorts of risky places and then expect to come home to your comfortable life here ... that was beyond irresponsible. I can't help but wonder if one of those families who lost their infant could actually win a civil suit.
I have no idea what whooping cough outbreak you are talking about, but I'm afraid you're very unaware of pertussis and how it is spread just by the nature of what you're saying here. Maybe read up a bit? Adults get pertussis and spread it around all the time in every country on the planet. Vaccines don't protect young infants from pertussis. http://kidshealth.org/parent/infections ... cough.html I'm truly confused by this post of yours, it reads like you have fallen into the hands of some level of media hoohah that has vilified a family that chose to not vaccinate.
It had to do mainly with the fact that once a person leaves childhood it becomes more and more risky to catch these childhood diseases. Also was the fact that my brother was 12 when he got the MMR and he became very sick, as did I ,but eventually recovered without lasting damage. I figured that since he recovered, but I didn't(I was 9) that age might have something to do with it. When I brought these thoughts to a couple different doctors(including
my son's pediatrician they both agreed that as my son was 15 now, the scale of risk had
tipped in the other direction. In others words the danger of not getting the MMR bore greater risks than him getting it. They also agreed if the problem I encountered with it was due to sensitivity, then my son being so much older would ensure a more mature, less vulnerable CNS... This is something I had grappled with since his birth. I researched, I questioned, I reflected, I prayed (alot). I did not want the samething to happen to my son
that happened to me. I did not take the descision to finally have him vaccinated lightly. It was only when
I felt well informed, I trusted the doctors I consulted and my intellect, gut, and inner guidance finally said it was best for my son, only then did we go ahead.
I hope this info helps in some way. It can be confusing and not all situations are the same
but age in my son's case was a main factor for us.
Quite a few babies have died here recently from Pertussis...not the vaccination, they were too young to get it, but the illness itself. There has been a Pertussis outbreak due to parents not having vaccinated their children.
You can talk with your doctor about your concerns and maybe work out an alternate vaccination schedule.

Babies don't get pertussis because people don't vaccinate their children.

" * Because no booster for pertussis is given beyond the age of 6 years in the US and elsewhere, virtually all adolescents and adults are susceptible (2).
* Many cases go unrecognized and diagnosed as URIs, bronchitis, and allergies, with an estimated 40% subclinical cases."

Here is my theory, Idk if it will make sense to anybody else.
Glutithione is the major antioxidant that cleanses our system of heavy metal poisoning, and other impurities in our system. It has been proven the higher the deficiency of glutithione the lower they function.
So when a child is born, and had low glutithione levels, and gets the first vaccine from the hospital, that child is not able to filter out the Thimerosal and I believe that is where the damage starts.
That is also not to say, that if the child didn't get vaccinated it wouldn't happen, it still would, just at a much slower rate, because there are environmental factors at play too.

I am curious about your theory - the autism rates have increases as the use of thermisol has decreased. Any thoughts on that? Or do you attribute the increase in ASD diagnosis on something else, such as more education about the diagnosis criteria by parents and practitioners?
My daughter contracted Pertussis and was vaccinated for it. I don't think Pertussis outbreak is caused by non-vacc'd kids. I also got it-much worse than my daughter and we were both vacc'd for it.
As far as Adora's theory, what about adding that AS kids don't create enough Glutithione? Or some other detox chemical created in the body? That would account for why these kids get build up and worse reactions to meds/chemicals.
I didn't have any major concerns about any of the other vaccines, as the only one I was aware of as being detrimental was the MMR. The only one I personally had a problem with was the Ruebella.
Pertussis and all the others, I had my son vaccinated on schedule. I just wish they didn't put
the ruebella with the measles and mumps vaccines. It would be better to have the choice of
leaving one out of the mix (if you know there is a family history of severe reaction) and still
give the other 2, to one's child, if that's what a parent deems best for their child.
I do believe there are physiological, biochemical, enviromental as well as genetic dispostion factors that can lead to
negative reactions to vaccines, including the development of autism and other health challenges. It's not an easy issue to sort out. Each child has their own unique "equation" ie. sensitivities, family history etc.
that needs to be mindfully worked out by those who know the child best ...Parents, pediatrician etc.

The babies die because the illness gets into the community from the unvaccinated children who have caught it abroad, and spreads through the community by the unvaccinated children who come into contact with that first child, or carriers who come into contact with that first child. The babies, who do not get vaccinated under any circumstance, because they are too young, rely on the herd immunity. With the herd immunity gone, the odds of exposure multiply. The baby gets exposed, the baby gets sick, and the baby dies.
We have an unprecented number of whooping cough cases in our county, and I have received constant notices through the schools. A friend of my daughter's was sick with whooping cought and out of school for 3 months; my daughter was tested for it when she was couging horribly for an extended period of time, on the off chance her vaccine had worn off early. Most children past a certain age are being asked to boost their vaccinations because it does wear off. The article that pin pointed the source of the outbreak did so without any villification of the family involved; that little of blame is my own addition, and my own opinion. Watching the disease run through the community is frightening, and this situation has been aided by many preventable factors.

I think your thought process was very thorough and you've presented it well. Thank you for sharing it.

I believe it really has to do with the glutithione lv being low. glutithione detoxes you body, especially of heavy metals, I'm not saying that thermasol is or was totally to blame, I'm blaming it on the glutithione levels. I just said that a child born with those low levels start damage quicker with that preservative. I'm in no way saying that thermasol is totally to blame, it is not used in many areas and autism continues.
Really all I know is that my son is high functioning, I love him with all my heart, and a dx doesn't change who he is, or how much I love and care for him. But like many parents, and people world wide, I have my own theories, and maybe one day someone will actually find out the cause/s.

DW I'm sorry I can't engage in conversation with someone who refuses to see common sense or even read links I am providing to show correct data so that you can understand where I am coming from. You keep making the same statements over and over and your statements are incorrect. If you have the time, I highly suggest you check out the links I posted or that you do some research of your own on this topic.
adora, I'm off to look up glutithone! I am becoming much more interested in diet and amino/mineral/vitamin levels after making some amazing headway in our family by using inositol for some of our anxiety/hypervigilance issues. I have never heard of glutithone, thanks for bringing it up.
