Kindergartner attacked by POS aka "teacher".

I remember being in 5th grade and there was a rumor about my 4th grade teacher that he is mean and he once tore a shirt off a student. After having him as a teacher, I found it very hard to believe he did that and my mom said it was a lie and he would have been fired if he really did that. But after reading this story and hearing personal stories by people about abuse they got and how kids usually don't say anything, it makes me wonder. But it is a possibility the story may have been exaggerated and other kids believed that person or they were making it up to scare me.

There is usually a belief that teachers are good people. And, most teachers are. It isn't an easy job and you have to have a passion to teach & mentor kids, especially the younger ones.

That said, all too often, there are the bad apples. A while ago, in my state, two were busted. One for sexually assaulting impressionable 7-yr-olds and the other for getting pregnant with a 15-yr-old's child. A friend of mine lives in a state where paddling of children in a school setting is not prohibited by law. She says that there are some teachers who misuse this and literally take a stick to the children at the slightest provocation.

So, it does happen.

My fear goes deeper. Paddling a child - ANY child - is bad. But when that child (like my son) cannot speak / cannot communicate, the potential for the perpetrator to get away with sheer, unadulterated cruelty is ENORMOUS. Every state should pass a law mandating cameras in every classroom / every hallway / every nook & corner of every campus serving the non-communicative or the minimally communicative. Yeah, I wish. I really do.

Children like mine are utterly vulnerable and at the mercy of those who work with them. And, the sad truth of the matter is that some of these people should not be around *any* human being, leave alone completely helpless, non-communicative children in special ed.

If your son keeps getting into trouble at school or you keep getting complaints about him, request he be video taped in class so you can see how he is acting and observe his behavior in the classroom setting. That way you will see any abuse or prevent any from happening. Would a teacher really show their true colors on video if they knew what they were doing was wrong?

They won't - which is actually what we want. Bullies are usually cowards and won't ever want to act anything but perfect IF they knew that they would be held accountable for their actions. So, if it is Impossible to avoid abusive, cruel jerks, then at least make them too scared to show their true colors !

Wiring up campuses *will* prevent the majority of the abuse. Fear of being reported, being charged, losing their jobs and possibly any future source of livelihood would be more than a deterrent to cowards like this abusive POS.

Will it happen ? Probably only if LOTS of noise is made by parents like me. And, I, personally, am MORE than happy to make as much noise as necessary to make that happen. Actually, I may just continue homeschooling my boy. He is safest at home, after all.

My school only used a regular video camera that took a VHS tape. When my mom had one done in 4th grade, the student teacher said it was for her so they could see how she is teaching because other kids would wonder why there was a video camera in class so that was her cover up. In 6th grade my mom had one done on me again.

Was it a one-time thing of you being recorded at school ? If so, it may show how a child is behaving at school but it won't prevent long term abuse from occurring.

I think it was once in 4th grade and a daily thing in 6th grade because teachers were saying I was being disrespectful. I didn't know what they were talking about and I also said to her kids were allowed to misbehave and I am not so Mom asked for me to be recorded in class to see what is going on and she saw the BS I had to put up with in school. She also saw kids acted worse than me but they still made a big deal about me falling asleep in class or reading or writing while our student teacher would be talking explaining a class assignment and kids were clearly bored so they were throwing things an acting up in their seats and I just read or wrote. It was also shown I was fine during the whole day until the last ten minutes of school and the staff made a big deal out of it. My therapist said that was actually good because I held in for so long until the last ten minutes and that is actually very good and then I reached my breaking point and couldn't do it anymore and acted out finally.

My mom just thought the staff were stupid. Since they didn't change for the video, I agree because it does show they do not know what they are doing or else they would have changed for the video.

This story is absolutely disgusting. Kids should not have to deal with abuse from their TEACHERS! And a 5-year-old special needs kid for crying out loud. Crazy. Hopefully she gets jail time and a big a--whoopin for this. Her teaching license also needs to be revoked and the school should be forced to find a brand new teacher to replace this POS.
