Studies apparently now show quite definitively that kids don't learn language or vocabularly from a screen; it has to be interactive with a person. And screen time can create other issues in their young brains. So ... while mixing it up is good in theory, it just doesn't work in real life.
Not to say one can never enjoy a DVD, just that there really isn't any point in trying to make that instructional time. Wholesome, yes. Instructional, no.
