The Autistic Princess was invited to a birthday party for her friend who goes to her school and also has Autism. I agreed to go as I had met her Mom before and thought Id feel comfortable. I started to panic before we went so I took some of my medication still when I got there I started to panic even more and wished I would have brought my husband along....but that would have included bringing my 7 year old Aspie who would NOT have wanted to go (like me LOL). I felt quite nauseated until I sat down and one of the other Moms sat down and talked to me for awhile. Im glad we went, my daughter had a really good time and was really well behaved. I behaved too and managed to hold it together until after the cake and presents then we said goodbye thanked the birthday girls Mom. My daughter didnt complain about going home and it all went smoothly.
We are both pretty worn out now and are laying in bed watching wonderpets....and Im obviously on the lap top. I had forgotten how exhausting being social can be. When I came home I told my husband "I just dont get how people can enjoy that". The only thing Im happy about is that we both did good and its OVER! !
Im so terrible....this is why my NT daughter used to get so upset with me when I didnt want to take her to parties and other such social things.

I applaud you for your stepping out of your comfort zone to do this for your daughter. You did your best and that is all that counts. Glad it's over for you!

Woot! Good job mom!

Maybe it'll get a little easier if you do it from time to time... or not. At least you can get through it once in a while.

Yay Liloleme! :D I absolutely loathe stuff like that too, and need recovery time afterwards. Every year our school "rewards" the volunteers with an afternoon tea, and every year I reward myself by not going. A reward? Indeed. It would be sheer torture for me! But I do push myself to go to a lot of other stuff, I figure I should try to set a good example and be as brave as my amazing sons can be! But man, is it hard sometimes.
