Finally put up a new Autistic Princess video

For those of you who do not know me or remember. I have been making videos of my daughter for the past two years and have posted some on youtube in the hopes of spreading positive awareness. I have had some serious medical problems and we just moved to France in August so its been some time since Ive had time to put together videos. Maddy AKA the Autistic Princess has had some problems adjusting to her new world here in France. Her school has been very good and the little girls in her class take care of her. We have been working very hard at trying to get her and my 8 year old Aspie son their therapy. My son finally has his aide and therapy from the Autism center will start for both of my kids next month (in home, at the center and at school). Maddy is supposed to get her aide next week. She has developed some more anxiety with the change and with the lack of therapy that she is accustomed to. Even though there have been hurdles she is still my happy, very intelligent little princess. She has started drawing every day. Its how she expresses her feelings and she has gotten quite good at it. Im very impressed with her artistic abilities. Thanks but weve already had that discussion here and with the family. Maddy loves her videos and herself....there is not a reflection that she passes without pausing to admire herself. I highly doubt that it will bother her when she is older I think she will be proud that she helps other people understand that Autism is not a bad horrible thing.

This is our way of showing the general public that Autism is not only a child screaming and banging heads. Even if we educate 5 people it can only be a good thing. There are so many people that do not get any assistance for their children until later in life because they do not recognize more mild symptoms. Maddy was diagnosed as "low functioning" at nearly 3 years so early intervention has made massive changes in her. Even if it did not I would still make videos because Im so tired of people filming their kids having meltdowns so people can view the "horrors" of Autism....what about all the good stuff??? This is why we make videos, sorry if you dont approve.

What a beautiful princess! I wish that I had known earlier that a child could make eye contact and still be autistic! I think your videos are very nice. Whenever Maddy decides she doesn't want them on you tube, I would imagine they will be easy to take down.

thanks for the update liloleme! glad to hear things are falling into place with the schools. and your daughter is beautiful! i was quite interested in how she held the marker, she seems to have good fine motor control. this is something my son really struggles with, he will be 5 in feb and cant even draw a circle =/

Maddy does have good fine motor skills, its my 8 year old aspie Luc that has the fine motor skill issues. Maddy has more large muscle problems but that is improving as well. We noticed the other day that she was alternating her feet intermittently while going up some stairs. She still does the one step at a time on the way down but Im sure she will get that too. I was told by her OT back in California that she had weak leg muscles...doesnt seem to stop her from climbing but we do have to watch her as she falls easily. As I said we are so impressed with her drawing/artistic abilities. I will try to scan some more of her drawings and post them. We also noticed that she seems to express some of her emotions in her drawing like one day she was upset with Luc so she drew her princess/fairy character stepping on Lucs head. Even though it was not the nicest thing we were surprised and happy that she can express that she was angry with him because she never fights back. Its one of the things that we have been working on, trying to get her to stand up for herself when other kids are pushing her around. Every once in a while she will appropriately respond by saying "Stop that" or "I dont like that"....I think she is realizing that this works better than just screaming LOL.
