I'm sorry liloleme - I generally dislike these sorts of videos. Posting them on youtube just invites all sorts of ridicule and misunderstanding even when they are intended to bring attention and acceptance. I can only imagine how I'd feel now, as an adult, if my parents had posted something like this of me. that's only my opinion and my reaction, I know.
She is precious though - and entirely cute!
The reason I put videos of my daughter on youtube is because there are so many negative videos about Autism....filming kids having meltdowns, ect. This is why the general public has a negative view of Autistic people. Also I only allow comments with my permission so I dont get any troll/ignorant comments. My daughter enjoys her videos, she is a born performer as you can see. I dont think anything in her videos could be construed as embarrassing to her. She, at this point in her life, could care less what people think of her anyway and she would not even notice if anyone did think she looked "odd" or "different". Everyone around her accepts her and loves her, even the other kids at school. If she ever decided that she did not like her videos I can remove them.
I dont quite understand what you mean by "these sorts of videos"....I am showing my daughter singing, dancing and having fun. Im not saying "look at my poor child afflicted with the terrible autism DISEASE" Im saying "Autism is not as bad as you people think it is and my daughter is just as beautiful, intelligent and cute as your typical child is".......actually more JK! If we were all afraid to show people what Autism really is than people will continue to believe that Autism is a kid rocking in a corner....because that is what the media wants people to think. I have only seen one documentary about an Autistic child that focuses some on the positive...most are primarily negative. People need to realize that even typical kids have problems and bad days just like autistic kids do.
You also should look up autismauntie. She videos her niece and nephew who are severely affected but her videos are mainly positive aside from the ones that show the kids father who tragically died of cancer a few years ago. Her niece is about the same age as Maddy and is just starting to talk. She is adorable and loves to be filmed just like Maddy does. Her nephew is around nine now and is still non verbal but he is happy and very affectionate things that most people would not expect from a severely autistic child.
Education is the key to acceptance and change!
Thanks everyone else for the positive comments. She is the sweetest little girl on the face of the earth...even when she is being a poop
