Ok....so we're in day 3 from 6 days of school consert!

My son is keeping up! And mommy is working hard on helping him 'keep up'!

Luckily the teacher is very relaxed before and after their performances in class....she puts on a movie and they can sit or lie anywhere, eat some nice snacks and also puts of the lights (IMO this is great for mimimizing the sensory stimuli).....they get dressed, watch movie, go up for 5 minutes, back to class and quickly up again.....

BUT I can start seing the signs in my son....last night before they had to go up for second time, he was pushing and rubbing my hand hard against his face, seeking, deep pressure....wanted strong hugs, and asked me to come up on stage with him (obviously I couldn't do that).....

The oppositional behaviour is a bit more...luckily not much.......and his facial expressions is becoming more blunted.......and staring is a bit more....ass well as fidgiting with non important objects.....

Must be honest, things seems to be ok....he says he is still coping fine......I'm hanging in there......not sure if we're going to make it till Saterday evening! Just holding thumbs!

What an intense run! Can't imagine very many children doing well with that.

Glad he is holding up.

You will be both have a sense of accomplishment when it is over.

My heart is broken today.....
My son had a great time last night, playing, laughing with friends!
when we went home after the consert, we gave his suppose to be best friend a lift home.....
As my son was running up to the gate with this child, this boy thought it would be funny to put his leg out to trip my son! Who knows why! My son fell very hard, with plenty of cuts! I was very upset and made this boy appologise.....My son kept a staight face, but after we dropped the friend at his house, my son started sobbing, he was so sad and dissapointed.....and felt betrayed by his friend!
This was his buddy who were suppose to look out for him, with whom he felt safe!

So sorry to hear that. Hopefully the child was just having a missguided moment. I tell my son to remember that other kids still have a lot of learning to do, and sometimes you have to allow for them to have failures. This was a failure of judgement. If it becomes a pattern, then you re-evaluate.

Thanx DW....wish I was so wise as you are! :(

Must say...I think I overreacted, as I often do!
This is good advice!

I'm not sure if I did the right thing, but I also told him that it's better not to give your whole heart to one friend, because if it gets broken, you need some more heart to give to some one else as well!? My son lacks some social judgement...he will easily become 'over attatched' to a person who is kind or caring towards him.....

I wouldn't worry about over-reacting. Your reaction was part of the teaching moment for the other child. How else is he going to learn that what he did was NOT OK?

And after that, it is appropriate to help your child vent his frustration.

THEN you move on, put things in perspective, right?

As for general friendship philosophies and giving your heart, etc., I think it is a very personal thing. No right or wrong philosophy, just what works for each unique person. Neither my AS son or I ever attach "full-heart" to friends, just not natural to us (even if there are times we only have one friend, they just aren't "that" close), so it isn't a hedge I would think of.

Does make me think of my daughter, who has a BFF she is super close to, and when conflicts come up there I remind her that they are inevitable, they don't mean that the BFF status is forever lost, and the most important thing is to not panic and try to hold on too tight, for holding on too tight (getting too needy) will be more likely to permanently ruin the friendship than any fight. Given that I never had a friendship like that, it is an interesting thing to be advising one, but I do know when something is the WRONG thing to do in a friendship (you know, stalking, demanding they pick between you and friend B, and so ... stuff that never goes over well).

I think that kids trip up other kids because they think it's funny. It probably wasn't malicious, but of course that child needed to see the consequences of his action. That he caused upset and hurt to your son, and to you.

I hope the concert goes well, good luck.

Ok....had a bit of a panic last night, when I handled DS to direct in confrontation, and stupid me in the heat of the moment said I'm not going to stay at school the whole evening...so he said (yes, you guessed right) "well, then I'm not going to the concert!"......
He was in a very irritable mood the whole afternoon, playing with sharp needles, actually thinking of putting it in his fingers to became wolferene(?).....Even regressed a bit, not in a good place at al!
So I reassured him I will stay there and contacted teacher and asked if we can leave concert early....She was very supportive, so we had more rest.
Today he looks better, tonight he needs to do the thing on his own , because me and daddy is actually going to watch the show! :P
