Here's another one from my life: when he begs to be allowed to read logic problem books for before-bed quiet time, arguing that they're really quiet. (Of course I said yes.)

When browsing at the jewelry store, my daughter - instead of ooohing and aaahing - tells me how all of the metals (gold, titanium, silver, etc) are listed on the periodic elements table. Including all of the important stuff like atomic weight and number, isotopes, who discovered it... Yikes - gives a whole new perspective to choosing a pair of earrings...

I mentioned on another thread that my son gave me a home made Mother's Day card that made note of the area and perimeter of the card prominently on the front of the card.

And CockneyRebel, your post totally describes my son. He's going to be 4 next month and would rather watch YouTube videos than just about anything else. That is, when he's not giving you tips on how to troubleshoot your digital converter box or remote problems!

When watching you pack for a road trip she decides the family had decided to go on a paleantological adventure. She takes out her book and copies pictures of possible signs for good places to dig (type of soil, depressions, footprints etc.) She collects apropriate plastic toys to use as models and matches them to the book. She then collects all her materials, shovel, brush, pencil, notebook. Finally she will inform you that she is ready to go, but that you Must print out the correct map. Obviously the map for the planned family road trip is not going through promising dinosaur country.
