My little one, aged 4 yr started grade 00 this year...its a formal school setting....
I expected some speech delays, he isnt educated in his mother language....BUT OMW, he is struggling!
We had our first parent interview/feedback session....It was just one and a halve pages stipulating everything he can't do!! !! !! :(
He had an OT assessment......he has sensory processing disorder....tactile, visual, auditory defensive......
He had his ST assessment......he is almost 18 months behind in first language and more than 2 yr behind in second language!
Struggles to cut with scissor, cant hold cryon, cant draw...exct.
Interact poorly with other friends, maybe because of poor language skills...
Fidgets all the time, pulls shirt over his head and arms and legs in sircle time....hums, talks or sings all the time, fidgets.....AGH I can carry on and on!
What frustrates me is that my 2 sons isnt geneticly related, his teacher doesnt know this.....So now she keeps on hinting that little son has autism, maybe because big brother is on the spectrum!
Me, together with OT and ST feels its an SI thing......
My little son loves social interaction, has great immaginary play.....I dont think its a spectrum thing, although I am worried about his speech, but he does try and interact with others....

The symptoms you describe seem to be High Functioning Autistic. There is often some overlap with Asperger's traits for those with HFA. Also, as they get older they sometimes improve enough on some of their traits to merge into the Asperger's end of the spectrum. It's important to get the kid some help in making the most of what he has and is. It is a help that he is somewhat social.

Autism disorders are neurological disorders. They can be caused by genetics, by environmental influences, or by trauma in the womb or at birth, like getting the air ways cut off by the cord. Or by a combination of two or all three of these things. It doesn't really matter now what caused it. All that matters is that you do what you can for your kids.

I'm not familiar with some of your acronyms. What do "gfg" and "ghg" mean? Also, in your sig, "dd" is ususually used for a daughter, where "ds" would be for a son.

Why do you think that because you sons have a different Father they both can not have Autism?

Personally, I would jump on the speech and OT issues right away. Also, he is old enough (at least here in the U.S.) for a consult for a pediatric neurologist or child psychiatrist about meds.

I have recently added a whole lot of occupational therapy information to my free website. (See above.)

Also, I have a whole lot of free speech videos and links to other websites offering speech materials that you can use at home. (Please see below.)

Note: The speech and vocabulary section is definitely the largest section of my very big website. The above links will lead you to over 2000 free speech videos taken off of YouTube and hundreds of links to resources.

Each embedded video player on my website actually hooks into an entire playlist of related videos. You start playing the first video clip and then use the black rectangular box at the base of that YouTube video player to scroll through all of the videos in that playlist. There are hundreds of YouTube video players on my free website, free power points, free flashcards, and loads of links to resources.
