My son is five and is an Aspie. He gets migraines but hasn't had one for ages. Last week he started complaining of mild headaches and we noticed his hightened anxiety (over death and moving of which we are doing neither) and figured a migraine was coming. I thought the minor headaches were due to a cough/cold he has and stress. He was saying he didn't want to go to school, etc so again, I thought anxiety. Then Sunday night he had a migraine we thought, but the usual single vomit kept going all night and once Monday am. Then he ate very little Monday and Tuesday and complained of headache off and on plus bad tummy pain. But he was playing as usual. Tuesday night (last night) he woke at 11:30 ish and cried out and slept walked (again normal) but then quickly crumpled to the ground and stretched with his arms rigid above his head. He seemed to be asleep so I just picked him up figuring the stretch would finish and I'd put him back in bed. But he stayed rigid until I laid him down. Then he shrieked and said his tummy hurt so much and he vomited again violently then went to sleep after I cleaned him up. Today headachy still and not eating with occasional tummy pain.

Sorry for so much detail but does this sound familiar? If it was a tummy virus the rest of the family would be sick. But we are not.

Does anybody else have a child with migraines? Could this be a variant? Or anxiety related? Any ideas?

We don't have migraines but we do have tummy issues that I believe are stress related. Will he tell you what is going on at school? If not will anyone at school be honest with you, if you ask. I would guess, if there is no stress on your end that it is something at school (or an activity, if he is enrolled in any.)

Honestly, and sorry if this sounds too alarmist, that sounds like seizures. If I was in your shoes at be at the doctor's office right now.

Thanks for the replies. We are finally at our doctors appointment - at 6pm. I wanted to go to the ER, but my husband thought that was rash. But it seemed to make sense to see the doctor rather than a walk-in clinic. And my husband didn't see the episode so he doesn't believe it could be seizures. I think it might have been a seizure too. And am so freaking worried right now.

My son has migraines. It was recurring and i took him to a neurologist
who put him on pills
after that the migraines reduced
i was asked to give him less colas, icecreams and fried food

Migraines and epilepsy are related and both are not uncommon co-morbids for autism. It's worth checking out fully.

The good news is you will have a better idea of what is going on and whether or not it is anxiety-driven if you see a specialist. You want to find a pediatric neurologist to diagnose seizures. They usually do that with an EEG, which isn't too invasive (they stick electrodes to his head for the duration of the test, but that's mostly it.)
