I don't know - at 5 years old, NT kids experiment with language a lot. If he heard someone say "I hate you" in that way, or "that's stupid," he might well be copying it. A 5 year old would have no way of understanding what the work of high school students means, and wouldn't necessarily assume it was valid just because of their age. I could see where calling something he doesn't understand "stupid" could be normal for that age. Kindergarten-aged children are just starting to understand the effect their words have on others, so he may be within the curve of that understanding. (See the book Words Are Not for Hurting, it's made just for this age group - so clearly it's a common problem

That being said - it doesn't exclude the possibility of AS. However, I am guessing if everyone in your family knows you have AS and this boy is related to you, they probably are keeping an eye out for it. You might ask your parents about your concerns.
Good to see you posting again, Zeldapsychology! It's been a while!
Thank You momSparky.

I'm not sure if he's on the spectrum or if anyone besides myself in the family is. From what I've read every has "traits" although might not have actual Autism. He is gifted and very smart for his age. I see signs here and there though. Whether it's ever diagnosed I don't know he hasn't seen anyone on it.
I love how he sometimes take things literally. His mom: We are going to the Flea Market Him: Do they sale fleas there? and he goes into his room to read a book. He is gifted but at age 5 likes to go in his room for alone time and read is great!! ! I'll keep an eye on his behavior. Thanks!! !!
