So, in my excitement at discovering this discussion forum, I failed to properly introduce myself before launching into questions and posts.
I am actually 'Subaru's Mom'. You know that Subaru commercial where the father puts his daughter in the car and she doesn't stop talking as he goes around to get in as well? That is the story of my life, and my parent's I suspect as well.
Our three year old son's pediatrician has informed us that he suspects Asperger's in addition to the ADHD dx. ADHD is rampant in my family so it was easy to recognize quite early on. The Asperger's aspect is quite new and surprising. I never knew there was a term or condition for his behaviour and always attributed it to his quirkiness and tried to work around/ with it. The only way I could explain it to others is that if it was this way last week, it had better be the same this week or we have hell to pay. If his mind is set on a certain aspect, it has to be that way or walls crumble and worlds collide. It is so dfficult to articulate to others, but I am sure you all here can relate.
We go to the child psychiatrist sometime in the next weeks as I have my first consult with him on monday... Thankfully they were very swift at getting us in after hearing about the acceleration of his behaviour characteristics, potential at losing our daycare spot and most importantly the raising of his meds at last appointment. That is whole other tangent I will not get into until I speak to him now about having my way and leaving the meds as they were and introducing behaviour modification programs.
Anyways,
I will leave it at that.
I am the most proud, enthralled, exhausted, amazed and overwhelmed mother of a three (almost four) year old son who I call 'Subaru'.
